Chicago Weather: Severe Storms Snap Tree Limbs Cause Power Outages For Thousands
A line of strong storms moved south into Illinois early Thursday morning, snapping tree limbs and knocking out power for thousands.
The storms moved through Madison, Wisconsin about 1 a.m., moving south at 50 mph, ABC7 Meteorologist Larry Mowry said. There were tornado warnings with the storm near Madison, he said.
The Illinois Department of Transportation reported some trees down in Waukegan just before 4 a.m., as a result of the storms.
In north suburban Zion, the storms came with a lot of lightning, heavy rain and some high winds.
Near Zion Middle School, a few very large tree branches were blocking 27th Street. Some power lines appeared to be affected, too.
Some residents said they thought a tornado was coming through, so when part of a tree fell on their roof, they ran to the basement.
To their surprise, it wasn’t a tornado — instead, a quick moving wicked storm.

In Chicago, siding from a two-story warehouse appeared to have been ripped off a Galewood building and tossed onto the Metra tracks, affecting the Metra Milwaukee District West.
Meg Reile, a Metra spokeswoman, said trains are not currently traveling past Bensenville on the line. In addition to the siding, there are wires across the tracks, she said.
Chicago Weather: More Storms Move Through Chicago Area Not As Strong As Past Days

More storms moved through the Chicago area Wednesday night, but not as strong as in the past couple days.
Winds picked up around 9 p.m. in parts of the northwest suburbs. There are concerns more gusty winds could cause more problems with all the storm debris still on the ground.
For some suburbs this is the fourth round of stormy weather since Monday.
There is the risk for a few tornadoes, especially near the Wisconsin border, ABC7 meteorologist Phil Schwarz said. Any storms that develop will be capable of producing gusty winds, heavy rain and frequent lightning.

Watch: Chicago Storm Damage Disrupts Metra Service
There was not immediately an estimate of how soon service would resume.
And in Park Ridge, the winds were so strong, a huge part of the trunk splintered off an old oak tree, landing on top of a home, crushing the chimney and two cars in the driveway.
In Skokie, a large tree came down, blocking the ramp to the Edens at Old Orchard Road.
At the storm’s height, ComEd said over 40,000 customers were without power.

Great App Ruined By Ads
ABC7s outstanding weather team deserves better – this app has many great functions but is fatally infested with obnoxious, vampirish ads and autoplaying ad videos that distract and degrade the user experience and can literally drive you off the app, and there appears to be no ad-free version available. Force-fed autoplay videos can be especially annoying to users with bluetooth hearing aids – a fact that younger programmers may not fully understand or appreciate.
Chicago Weather: 1st Snow Of Season Forecast To Fall Across City Suburbs Friday
Oh, snow! The Chicago area will see its first snowfall of the season Friday, though it’s not expected to stick around for long.
ABC7 Meteorologist Tracy Butler said to expect some light right rain mixed with snow flakes Friday morning and even some graupel.
WATCH | ABC7 AccuWeather Forecast
“It’s going to be spotty,” ABC7 Meteorologist Greg Dutra said. “It’s not going to snow the entire time.”
However, there may be some heavier bursts of snow in the afternoon that could lead to some minor accumulations on grassy and elevated surfaces.
Drivers should be cautious during the Friday evening commute as the heavier bursts of snow combined with winds gusting over 30 mph could lead to low visibility.
“I don’t think there will be slick roads, it’ll just be wet from the snowfall,” Dutra said.
Temperatures will stay seasonal through the weekend, with another chance for snow coming on Sunday. Butler said there is a change Sunday morning for snow to accumulate.
