Up and Running: The Bank of America Chicago Marathon returns

The 2022 Bank of America Chicago Marathon, a member of the Abbott World Marathon Majors and an internationally renowned running event, is accepting applications through Tuesday, November 30. The application process includes a non-guaranteed entry drawing as well as a system of guaranteed entry options . Runners will have until Tuesday, November 30 to apply for either a guaranteed or non-guaranteed entry. The cost of an entry is $230 for United States residents and $240 for those residing outside of the United States.

Runners Raised $21.4 Million in 2021 Runners Can Make an Impact in 2022 by Joining a Charity Team

Today the Bank of America Chicago Marathon announced the field for the 2022 event is set to return to 40,000 participants after hosting a smaller field in 2021. Runners who entered the non-guaranteed entry drawing for the 2022 race will be notified of their selection status today. Individuals still interested in participating can secure their place in the field by joining an official charity team. Since 2002, the Charity Program has generated more than $265 million for local, national and global causes, including $21.4 million raised by runners in 2021. The 44th running of the race is scheduled to take place on Sunday, October 9, 2022.

âToday, we celebrate the commitment made by our newest field of competitors, alongside the continued dedication and support of our volunteers, spectators and community members,â said Carey Pinkowski, Bank of America Chicago Marathon Executive Race Director. âThe Bank of America Chicago Marathon has always been the peopleâs race. They helped to create the tradition and they will be a part of the comeback as we embark on the next chapter in the eventâs history.â

Galen Rupps Podium Finish Further Cements Legacy

Rupp became the first American man to win the Chicago Marathon in more than a decade when he captured the 2017 title, and although he finished in the runner-up spot this time around, he still finds himself in very elite company.

Rupp is the only American man to finish in a podium spot in Chicago since Kahlid Khannouchi won the race in 2002. The duo are the only two American men to finish on the podium in the last 25 years, with Jerry Lawson accomplishing that feat in 1996.

Mcfadden Becomes The Third American Woman To Go From Runner

Tatyana McFadden continues to cement her place in the record books at the Chicago Marathon, blitzing the field to capture her ninth title in the womens wheelchair race.

McFadden is not only the most decorated womens wheelchair racer ever, with her nine titles eclipsing the six that Ann Walters won between 1991 and 1996, but shes also now one of only three women to capture the title after finishing in the runner-up spot in the previous years race, joining Miriam Nibley, who won in 2004, and Candace Cable, who won in 1997.

Both Nibley and Cable went on to win more races, with Nibley capturing three straight from 2004-2006 and Cable capturing a back-to-back title in 1998.

Timing checkpoints are positioned at the start line, at each 5K, at the halfway point and at the finish line. Your MYLAPS BibTag timing device will register split times at each of these checkpoints.

Digital clocks are positioned at the start line, throughout the course and at the finish line to provide the elapsed race time. Mile and kilometer markers are positioned at each mile and 5K to assist you in locating the clocks. Digital clocks at the finish line will display the elapsed race time, which begins with the official race start time. Your individual race time may differ depending on when you cross the official start line.

Shalane Flanagan Finishes Third Of Six Abbott World Marathon Majors Races In Seven Weeks

With a condensed schedule this year because of COVID-19, Shalane Flanagan set a remarkable goal: to finish all six Abbott World Marathon Majors within a seven-week span, and to do so in under two hours and 30 minutes.

While she wont achieve the latter goal, she took another big step toward achieving the first goal, finishing this years marathon in 2:46:39.

Flanagan, the top finisher among women between the ages of 40 and 44, will now head to Boston for Mondays Boston Marathon. She will also race in New York in November, and will race another event to replace the Tokyo Marathon, which was postponed until next year.

Final Preparations Underway For Chicago Marathon

Long recognized as an annual rite of spring, a celebration of St. Patrickâs Day and the kickoff to the outdoor running season in Chicago, the Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle treats runners to a scenic 8K run through downtown Chicago and two-mile walk along Chicagoâs lakefront. The 8K Run will kick off at 8:30 a.m., followed by the 2 Mile Walk at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 20. Following the race runners can enjoy live music at the Post-Race Party in Grant Park.   • Application For A Non

    Individuals not eligible for a guaranteed entry were able to apply for a 2022 Bank of America Chicago Marathon entry through the non-guaranteed entry drawing application. The opportunity to apply for a non-guaranteed entry closed at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, November 30.

    At the conclusion of the six-week application window, names will be selected from the full pool of non-guaranteed entry applications. Submitting multiple applications will not increase your chances of receiving an entry. Prior to the drawing, the event will remove all duplicate applications.

    Applicants will be notified via email of their entry status on Thursday, December 9. If an applicant receives an entry through the drawing, the entry fee is automatically processed.

    Individuals who apply for, but do not receive an entry through the drawing, may still register by opting to run for select official charities or tour groups.

    The Return of Racing Continues in 2022 with the Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle and Bank of America Chicago 13.1

    Today the Bank of America Chicago Marathon announced it is accepting applications for the 2022 event at chicagomarathon.com. The launch of the 2022 application continues Chicagoâs return to racing and builds on the excitement seen over a week ago when 26,122 participants crossed the finish line in Grant Park. Next year will also mark the return of the Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle and the long-awaited debut of the Bank of America Chicago 13.1. Registration for the Shamrock Shuffle kicks off today and the Chicago 13.1 will launch registration in January.

    HOTEL CANCELLATION POLICY :

    • Any cancellation from the time of booking through April 30, 2022 will be charged a $30 cancellation fee.
    • Any cancellation from May 1, 2022 and through July 31, 2022 will be charged a $40 cancellation fee.
    • Any cancellation from August 1, 2022 and through August 31, 2022 will be charged a $60 cancellation fee.
    • Any cancellation on or after September 1, 2022 and through seven days prior to your arrival date of your hotel reservation will be charged a one nights room and tax cancellation fee.
    • Seven days or less prior to your arrival date, you will be charged the room and taxes for the total nights of your reservation. For example, if you booked three nights and canceled five days before you were to arrive, MTT will charge your credit card on file for the three room nights plus tax.
    • NO SHOWS will be charged the full room and taxes for total dates of the reservation, unless the hotel has a different policy.
    • Cancellations are charged per room reserved. Applicable charges will be applied directly to the credit card provided for your hotel room.

    GUARANTEED RACE ENTRY CANCELLATION POLICY:

    When booked through Marathon Tours & Travel, the Guaranteed Entry is non-refundable, non-transferable and cannot be deferred for future years once confirmed.

    The Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle, one of Chicagoâs favorite annual traditions and the official kick off to the running season, is a continuation of the cityâs St. Patrickâs Day celebrations. On Sunday, March 20, 2021, the race will treat runners to a one-of-a-kind 8K run through Chicagoâs Loop. Fitness enthusiasts looking to tackle shorter distances are encouraged to join The Mile event on Saturday, March 19, or the 2 Mile Walk on Sunday. All three events will start and finish in Chicagoâs Grant Park.

    Romanchuk The Third Man To Win Three

    The Bank of America Chicago Marathon Fuels the City

    Daniel Romanchuk has been engaged in an incredible rivalry with Switzerlands Marcel Hug in recent years, and he took another trophy home from that battle when he won his third straight Chicago Marathon mens wheelchair race.

    Romanchuk is the third person to win three straight titles in the race, joining Australian Kurt Fearnley, who most recently won in 2009, and James Briggs, who won three straight from 1993 to 1995.
