Pros: The gothic-inspired vintage design is filled with historic charm and character. The location across from Millennium Park also means great views of the park and lake.

Cons: The downtown location and setting inside a historic building means rooms can be smaller than expected. Also, the local popularity of the on-site restaurants can result in unacceptably long wait times.

Originally home to an elite men’s club, the Chicago Athletic Association hotel building is an architectural gem dating back to 1893. Converted to a boutique hotel in 2015, the lobby always gives me goosebumps with its Harvard meets Hogwarts aesthetic.

Rooms play into the vibe, but it’s comfortable rather than kitschy. I often bring out-of-towners up to Cindy’s Rooftop, an airy restaurant with a large outdoor terrace offering some of the city’s best views of Millennium Park and Lake Michigan.

Wonderful Stay And Outstanding Staff

The hotel was just right for our Chicago vacation. The location is perfect for seeing the sights, dining, and shopping. The room was spacious and well-appointed. Lincoln Park is my recommendation for people who are traveling to Chicago on a budget and for those visiting the city with their family and kids as well!

The Art Institute Of Chicago

The Art Institute of Chicago, on South Michigan Avenue in Grants Park, may be housed in what looks like a forbidding mausoleum, but inside its an absolute trove of treasures.

It takes a full day to browse around as there is so much to see. The museum has over three-hundred thousand permanent exhibitions plus hosts countless temporary exhibits throughout the year.

The artworks are not restricted to American artists. There are numerous and varied collections displaying the works of notable artists from all over the world in multiple forms which range from oils and watercolors to photographs, prints, textiles, and furniture.

The Clarence Buckingham Memorial Fountain, to give it its full title, is not only the centerpiece of Grants Park and the symbolic feature of the city of Chicago, it is one of the largest fountains in the world.

The magnificent fountain is tiered in layer upon layer of pink marble, surrounded by eight seahorses and has a central jet which spurts water to a phenomenal height of one-hundred and fifty feet.

Catch the hourly water shows from the middle of April through to mid-October or the evening performances when the sprays dance in rhythm with lights and music. Impressive.
