Wildfire Wildfire is hands down one of my favorite restaurants, whether Im on a date or eating with a group . The mood is great, and I used to spend New Years Eve here because they are able to handle crowds so well. Its one of the great Chicago suburban romantic restaurants, too, however. The food is amazing, and they offer everything from the best chopped salad anywhere to wonderful fish and hearty steaks. The booths are great for creating a private ambiance, and their drink menu sets you up for the perfect mood. There are locations in Chicago, Oak Brook, Lincolnshire, Schaumburg, and Glenview , so there are plenty of locations to choose from.

Sushi Ai Last year, my husband made reservations for us at Sushi Ai, a restaurant in Palatine that Id never been to. I absolutely loved that they included roses on the tables for those who had made reservations that were gifts to the women to take home, as a thank you from the restaurant. Though its small inside, it never felt crowded, and the sushi was amazingly fresh. I could have eaten all night long. One of the other fun and cool features is that regular diners have their own chopsticks that are stored onsite near the entrance in their own boxes and are brought out when you eat there. My goal is to earn a box of my own one day.

Parsons Chicken And Fish Andersonville

The fourth Parsons has opened in Andersonville, and the patio is glorious. Sandwiches are huge , but that wont stop you from slamming down an order or two of the Hush Puppies. Do you want Ranch Fries, tossed with house-made ranch powder and Parmesan cheese? Emphatically, yes. The dill pickle mignonette that comes with the raw oysters on the half shell are worth the price of admission, so dont miss those. And the Original Negroni Slushy deserves every bit of the hype, a frosty blend of Letherbee Gin, Luxardo Bitter, Sweet Vermouth, and citrus. Come at me, summer. Opened June 2021.

Adorn At The Four Seasons

Adorns Peeled Tomato Tartlet

Another new iteration of the Four Seasons restaurant dining room, but this one might have legs. James Beard Award-winning chef Jonathon Sawyer returns to his hometown to dazzle us with the bounty and variety of Midwestern ingredients available. The Pickle Brine River Trout with sauce Meunière, cauliflower and capers, Peeled Tomato Tartlet with Carr Valley cheese, melted leeks and shallots, and the Red Wine & Black Truffle Poutine featuring Wisconsin cheese curds and proper French fries are sure to be highlights. Opened May 2021.

Two chefs used their life savings to start this gourmet fast-food restaurant, with beer-battered burgers, fish tacos and combinations like foie gras with fries. Po’ Boys include medium-rare ahi tuna, soft-shell crab and shrimp banh mi, but the fried pork belly with maple mayo is Guy’s pick, described as “chicharrones meets pulled pork.”

Portillos This is a great, very casual dine in place that is great for families or anyone who likes a good hotdog or Italian Beef. My favorite thing to order is an Italian Beef dipped with extra sweet peppers. They have a huge menu and if you are still hungry, try the chocolate cake pictured on the right. It’s amazing!

Superdawg Drive-In is known for their dancing hot dog sign, their old fashioned curb service, and their bright green relish on their dogs. This is a fun destination spot with the kids as the colors are bright and the food is fun.

Wiener Take All . This is a small, very casual place with only a few tables but you will find classic Chicago Hot Dogs along with other kid friendly items. The owner seems to know everyone in town and it’s a great place to grab a quick burger or dog to go.

Chefs From Winnetka To St Charles Discuss The Challenges And Of Business Beyond The Big City

There was a time when fine dining in the burbs meant red sauce Italian places or steakhouses where the ribeye came one way: well-done. While the renowned Jean Banchet launched Le Francais in Wheeling in 1973, quality white-tablecloth dining were slow to make inroads beyond the city. It wasnt until 1981 that chef Robert Burcenski and business partner J. Thomas Alves opened the much-lauded Tallgrass in Lockport.

Things picked up with the new millennium. Paul Virant launched his elegant, seasonally driven Vie in tony Western Springs in 2004 several years later, diners in blue-collar Berwyn were enjoying guinea-hen sausage with oil cured olives and tagliatelle with shrimp and scallops over a sweet pea sauce at Autre Monde. And while not every chef is tossing his toque into the ring, the suburbs nonetheless exert an appealing challenge. Chris and Megan Curren are set to debut The Graceful Ordinary in St. Charles this spring. Come summer, brasserie fans will be enjoying steak frites and more at Ryan ODonnells Pomeroy in Winnetka.

The Graceful Ordinary will occupy 4,700 square feet in a former 60s-era bank overlooking the Fox River and run a menu that ranges from roasted beet salad to whole wood-grilled fish. While the project rings a lot of bells for Curren including working close to home and being part of a community cooking in the burbs isnt for everyone.

Even though I cook at home a lot, I’m often asked what are some of my favorite restaurants in NW Chicago Suburbs. I’ve compiled a list of some of our family’s favorite places to eat that range from kid-friendly and casual, to date-night and special occasion.

These are restaurants that are located in the Vernon Hills, Lincolnshire, Lake Zurich, and Deer Park Illinois areas. These suburbs are about an hour away from downtown Chicago but offer lots of great Chicago style eating!
