The Roost Carolina Kitchen

This country kitchen with locations in Lakeview and River West pays homage to the from-scratch Southern cooking that owner Joe Scroggs grew up with in his home state of North Carolina. Although the fried chicken has garnered Roost much of its critical praise, the buttermilk biscuits are shining stars in their own right. Enjoy them as is or sub them in as the bread option on any of the sandwich offerings like The Original, with fried chicken, cucumber coleslaw, dill pickles, chipotle buttermilk ranch and your choice of cheese. 455 N. The Lou Mitchell’s Story
98 Years Later, Were Still the Best for Great Food and Fun!
Uncle Lous father started the Chicago family diner in 1923 specializing in breakfast, brunch, and lunch dishes. The family restaurant was later turned over to his son, Lou Mitchell.
Enough fresh eggs have been cracked, made into omelets, cooked in skillets and sold for breakfast at Lou Mitchells to go side-by-side more than a few times around the world. Weve poured enough cups of our signature coffee to fill the Chicago River and our delicious pancakes could fill Wrigley field. And to think, it all started with one mans food dream in Illinois.
The man was Uncle Lou Mitchell. His graciousness, friendliness, hospitality and consistent quality, soon had droves of hungry Chicago diners standing in line not only for breakfast but also one of his famous home-cooked lunch specials and fresh char-grilled burgers.
The fun part of Lou Mitchells magic formula was added one day in 1958 when the restaurant began offering breakfast diners donut holes. A tradition was set in place and since that day, millions of donut holes and boxes of milk duds have been given out to our fabulous customers.
The news of this spectacular diner spread quickly and patrons flocked from all around the world to try Lou Mitchells homemade food: England, France, Germany, and Italy…patrons traveled miles to see the signature Chicago restaurant.
We Welcome You to Lou Mitchells
Hoosier Mama Pie Company
Hoosier Mama Pie Companys founder Paula Haney has built a pie empire here in Chicago with her reach now expanding outside of her original Ukrainian Village location to a Chicago Avenue outpost in Evanston. In addition to a wide assortment of seasonally driven sweet and savory pies, Hoosier Mama churns out a mean buttermilk biscuit. Fluffy and light with that characteristic buttermilk tang, these biscuits sing with a spread of butter and jam and serve as a luxurious bread substitute for a breakfast egg and cheese sandwich. 1618 1/2 Chicago Ave., Chicago, 312-243-4846 749 Chicago Ave., Evanston, 847-868-8863
