St Louis Ribs: Smoque Bbq

The Grid explores Chicago’s Chinatown: Best places to eat & more

Even the baked beans are smoky at this aptly named Chicago barbecue restaurant. The meaty menu makes it hard to decide, but ribs available as baby backs or meaty St. Louis style are especially excellent, coated in a Memphis-style dry rub and glazed with a sweet, tangy barbecue sauce.

Your Parents Are Visiting And Footing The Bill: Dusek’s

For this one, we recommend taking a short trip to the nearby Pilsen neighborhood for a spot that offers familiar food with a creative twist and a Michelin Star. From small plates to specials, Dusek’s promises a delicious meal and an authentic Chicago dining experience.

What to order: Your parents will thank you when you offer to start off with a wood-roasted blue crab dip for the table. You can’t go wrong with the roasted chicken entree, but if you are feeling a little adventurous and exceptionally hungry go for the duck. Never say no to dessert and always say yes to any of their fried sweets.

This one goes out to all of our University of Chicago kids who are homesick for their native West Coast state. Boasting “California-style vegan” menu items, Native Foods is a great place to go when you are trying to avoid the Freshman 15.

What to order: The Soul Bowl is a great starting point for those who are not experienced with imitation meat. With Native Fried Chicken, organic steamed veggies, brown rice and more, this bowl will fill you up without filling you out. The included fresh cornbread side is your gift for eating so well. Be sure to grab a lavender lemonade and a loyalty card to reap even more rewards from your healthy habits!

Best Innovative Dining Experience In Chicago Next

The most forward-thinking restaurant in the country, in my opinion, Next is another ticketed experience from the team behind bucket-list worthy Alinea. Every quarter they completely reconceptualize the space and food from Paris 1906 to Thailand 2020 and even had a whimsical Childhood menu with edible finger paints. The buzz definitely justifies the hype.

Smoked Shrimp At Calumet Fisheries

40 Amazing Places to Eat in Chicago: A Locals Guide to the ...

South DeeringThis humble Far South Side fish shack has been marinating and smoking their prime seafood over specially selected oak logs onsite since 1948 and, unlike pretty much everything else in this crazy world, precious little about their award-winning process has changed. The menu runs deep, of course, but the shrimp, tender and bursting with briny, meaty succulence, remains an absolute no-brainer.How to book: Stop by for counter service.

Polish Sausage: Kimski Dog

Chicago has a long history of 24-hour joints serving up grilled reddish kielbasa links overflowing with sunburst-yellow mustard and golden caramelized onion, aka the Maxwell Polish. Chicago is also a melting-pot town, and it was only a matter of time before the Polish influence was mixed with a little Korean spice to produce a hot dog that someday might rival the classic dragged-through-the-garden Chicago hot dog. Behold the Kimski dog, a thick hunk of Polish sausage topped with soju-liquor-spiked mustard and fermented kimchi sauerkraut stuffed into a pillowy split-top, lobster roll-style bun. The richness of the meat is foiled by the mustard and kimchi brightness, providing a hot dog that bursts like flavor fireworks.

Jibarito At Papas Cache Sabroso

The jibarito is yet another original Chicago sandwich, created by our vibrant Puerto Rican community. Though it may look like a regular sandwich, there is one element that sets it apart:

Theres no bread!

Instead, crispy plantains hold together layers of meat, cheese, lettuce and tomato. The condiment of choice is garlic-flavored mayonnaise. Steak tends to be the typical filling, but we stan the chicken jibarito at Papas Cache Sabroso in the citys quintessential Boricua neighborhood, Humboldt Park.

Honey Butter Fried Chicken

Best Places to Eat in Chicago

A perennial North Side favorite, Honey Butter Fried Chicken comes from a pair of talented chefs who threw underground dinner parties. These crisp and skinless pieces of meat come with the restaurants signature honey butter. But beyond the food, Christine Cikowksi and Josh Kulp are committed to improving restaurant working conditions and have championed a business model where employees receive health care benefits. That explains prices that are higher than the average counter service joint, but HBFC reports strong worker retention, which is a rarity in the industry.

More Than A Steakhouse: Gt Prime

Normally wed stay away from the meat-and-potatoes cliches that often define Chicago, but in the case of GT Prime, its mandatory. Thats because, though it bills itself as a steakhouse, GT Prime is really more like a fine-dining restaurant that just happens to also serve top-shelf meat. You wont find 2-pound hunks of rib eye instead, reasonable 4- to 12-ounce portions of top-class wagyu strip steak or grass-fed bison already cut for you are on offer. Youll supplement those manageable beef portions with a selection of elegant sides, soups, salads and appetizers.

Chicagos Mexican population is one of the largest in the country and their cuisine is woven tightly into the fabric of the food scene here. No one does it better either than Cemitas Puebla, who put themselves on the map by creating the Cemitas Atómica. This monster sandwich blends pork loin, breaded milanesa and Krakus ham for a heart-stopping number.

You’re Craving A Slice: Quartino’s

on Jun 14, 2016 at 6:19pm PDT

We seriously love this place. The food is always spot-on, and the customer service is great. From the Quattro Stagioni pizza to house-made Gnocchi, you’ll be in food heaven. Forget school for a couple hours and come here to enjoy comfort food with company. Does your SOSC discussion make you feel the same way pizza makes you feel? How about waking up for a 9 am instead of waking up to the smell of a freshly baked pizza? School will never love you the way Quartino’s loves you, and that is why this place is our #1.

What to order: EVERYTHING. You can’t go wrong ordering anything on this menu. We absolutely love their food. 10/10, you’ll see us at dinner on Friday night. Walk off your meal by heading to Magnolia Bakery and get a second dessert like a hardcore Spoonie.
