Chicago Pd Season 10 Episode 8 Review: Under The Skin

Chicago PD Review

It was time for a Burgess-centric installment, and we got an intense, dark hour and an unexpected lead in the Sean case.

While in many ways, Chicago PD Season 10 Episode 8 felt like a perfunctory and long overdue acknowledgment of Kim’s trauma from her shooting, the hour delivered an exciting case, some domestic moments with the Burzek family, and gave us the incredibly underrated dynamic of Kim and Hailey at the end.

Chief O’Neal may have thought he was tossing a case to the unit to distract them from his son, but he’ll quickly realize that you can’t slow down the inevitable and save the wicked.

It was as clear as day with O’Neal when he showed up at the scene and threatened and ordered Voight to take on this case.

He claimed that the unit didn’t have anything actionable on his son, their sex trafficking case was a dud, and he wanted them to direct their attention elsewhere.

While his maneuvers were shady as heck, it’s good that Voight and the unit took this case on after all. No one could’ve anticipated it would evolve into all of this and lead the team down a borderline chaotic path toward capturing a serial killer.

Only this unit would stay winning even when they got set up to lose.

From the moment Kim noticed the wounds to the torso, it was evident that this case would drudge up memories from her kidnapping and leave her processing that all over again.

Torres fits right in with the Burgess, Atwater, and Ruzek trio that has become a staple for the series.

Did the team crack the case?

On Chicago PD Season 8 Episode 1, a 5-year-old girl was gunned down and with a long list of suspects, Voight knew they had to tread carefully.

With rising attention on police reform, the officers learned about changes that would be coming for them.

Elsewhere, Burgess continued on her new path, but did it mean leaving her friends behind?

Chicago Pd Season 8 Episode 1 Review: Fighting Ghosts

Intelligence is back in action, but things are looking a bit different on Chicago PD Season 8 Episode 1.

Despite ending prematurely due to COVID-19, Chicago PD Season 7 segued perfectly into the police reform storyline brought upon by the death of George Floyd and the Black Lives Matter movement.

On PD, Shawn Paige, the man gunned down by Doyle, is Chicago’s version of Floyd and allows the series to navigate the murky waters of Black cops versus the blue wall.

The episode led to some very heavy yet important conversations that made it clear that doing the “right” thing was going to test everyone’s limits this season.

Woman: So, I’ve been reviewing evidence in the Doyle homicide case and I just wanted to touch base with you one more time. Atwater: I’m not sure what you’re asking. Woman: I’m asking if there’s anything you would like to add or modify. Atwater: No. I stand by my original statement.

Atwater faces the biggest challenge, but per usual, Laroyce Hawkins bravely stepped up to the challenge and nailed every scene.

I’ve likely said this before, but I really mean it this time — give this man all the awards!

It’s clear that sticking to his original statement was the right thing to do despite the pushback from Doyle’s crew, who view Atwater’s decision of painting Doyle as the aggressor in Paige’s death as being a “snitch.”

Apparently, there’s nothing worse than turning on your fellow brothers in blue.

Chicago Pd Season 8 Episode 15 Recap

Chicago PD opens another episode at night, this time with Voight walking down the street. He notices a young man in the middle of a heated phone call just before he goes to meet Miller for a drink she wants to celebrate that the numbers are pretty good. Voight is surprised when the man from earlier walks in hes Millers son Darrell.

Some time later Voight is driving and someones following him home. He takes evasive action and is able to lose the trailing car but decides to chase them down afterward. When he does, he discovers that the driver is Darrell! Why are you following me? he asks the kid at gunpoint, to which the reply is I owe some people a lot of money. If I dont pay them soon, theyre gonna kill me.

Voight takes Darrell back to his house, where Chicago PD shows us a rare photo of Voight with his late son Justin . Darrell explains that hes been dealing cocaine and because the people he sells to owe him money, he cant pay his dealer. He now owes a strip club owner named Kent Darby a cool $10,000 and of course he cant tell his mom, so he wants Voight to help without telling her.

So whats Plan C, guys?

Unfortunately, when our heroes get there, they find nothing but Darrells phone.

What are you doing? he argues in front of everyone. This is not reform. Miller retorts that they dont get to rewrite the law for her son, because Every victim is somebodys kid.

Intelligence And Reform Dont Mix

Chicago PD introduces Deputy Superintendent Samantha Miller as shes giving a speech that Hailey Upton calls disrespectful. Both Atwater and Jay Halstead disagree. Voight is waiting in Millers office when she returns. She wanted a meeting as in two weeks shes already heard his name too much.

If you keep running your unit the way youve been doing for the last seven years, you may be out of a job by Christmas, she warns, but insists that shes on his side. She thinks if she can change Voight, the rest of the department will follow.

Hey, good luck with that.

Intelligence responds to the shooting of a five-year-old girl named Laura. But no one in the neighborhood wants to talk to the cops Jay gets called a racist by one person and another throws a bottle at Adam Ruzek .

Chicago PD opens the next day with Halstead having found video footage that proves Lauras shooting was accidental. He and Upton visit the church they saw on the video and find the priest tied up in the back room. Its the last time I stash money for a drug dealer, he says, explaining that he took the cash to keep the doors open. He got held up by an armed assailant, and then tried to chase the robber, which is how Laura was shot. He then got tied up and beaten by the dealer he was hiding the money for.
