How Long Does It Take To Drive

It takes about six hours, 15 minutes to drive between Minneapolis and Chicago, but could take longer depending on traffic conditions and how many stops you make along the way. For the fastest route, take I-94 east from Minneapolis. You can stay on this highway for basically the entire time, but note that I-94 merges with I-90 at about 200 miles into the trip, so you’ll need to keep to the right to stay on I-90.

Welcome to the NIAGARA FALLS TRAVEL FORUM.
I am a bit pressed for time at the moment
So I will no doubt come back to this topic as I will have much to add so as to help you get a true understanding for Niagara Falls & the Niagara Region .
BUT in the meantime just let me point out that although the info you have received from Amtrak is correct you DO NOT want to take the train as far as Niagara Falls Canada there are only a limited number of trains that cross the border daily, and ALL Trains that traverse the Border, spend aprox 2 Hours at the Border for the Customs & Immigration Inspection
The latter reason is a HUGE time waster you can easily get off in NF NY and make your own way across the Border
Or alternatively, just make your way to Niagara Falls from Buffalo also easily enough to do.
May as well be spending your time enjoying your vacation vs sitting still on a train !!

Niagara Falls On July 4th
The evening of July 4th, we all gathered at the falls and watched 13 minutes worth of constant fireworks shoot over the cascading waters. Needless to say, it was incredible, and they sure know how to put on a show.
As a New Zealander, it was a really interesting experience being in North America during July 4th, Independence Day. We have our own national day here in NZ, Waitangi Day, but its very chill. We have a national holiday to commemorate the first signing of New Zealands founding document: Te Tiriti o Waitangi, The Treaty of Waitangi, which was signed in 1840.
Its a day of rest and remembering the Treaty being signed, and recognising how far we still have to go as a nation. We get together with friends and family on our day off and have BBQs, or head to the beach. Some head to Waitangi for a service, some stay home and just take a well-needed rest. While it has its similarities to July 4th, we dont go all out as America does.
To be in North America for the 4th of July was an experience! And it was actually really amazing to see the ways that different countries around the world celebrate their national days. The fireworks, the sales, the flags, the everything-is-red-white-and-blue vibes it was a lot of fun to experience. While we were on the Canadian side of the falls, the hype around July 4th was still very much there, and the fireworks display was just even grander than I was expecting.
Here are some of the things to do in Niagara Falls, Canada.
Getting To Niagara Falls
You can get to Niagara Falls from the town of Buffalo in New York State, USA. You can either drive, bus or train across to the border check on the other side of the Niagara River.
The summer of 2010 saw my family and I head to Chicago from New Zealand to visit family, so we were going to Niagara Falls, Canada, from America. We made a long overnight train trip from Chicago to Buffalo.
Note for taking the overnight train ride in summer: It got quite cold at night, and we were not prepared.
When we got to Canada, we were shuffled off our bus but then had to sit outside in the blazing sun without water for several hours before we were allowed into the customs office. There was some hold up inside, so it was a pretty rough introduction into the country.
When we eventually were let into Canada, we found our accommodation , and then wandered into the main shops and attractions. The whole of the world seemed to be there.
