CHICAGO City and state grant programs to help people behind on rent will start accepting applications Monday.
The citys Department of Housing is accepting applications from Chicago tenants and landlords 10 a.m. Monday through Dec. 18. The statewide program, administered through the Illinois Housing Development Authority, will accept applications Monday through Jan. 9.
Renters and housing providers can apply to both programs, but they will only receive assistance from one source for the same period.
The city program will provide a one-time grant, up to $2,500 a month, matched to applicants specific need for up to 15 months of past-due rent and utility payments. The grant also could include up to three months of future payments, according to the Department of Housing.
First-round applicants can check on the status of their applications here.

Who Is Most At Risk For Losing Their Home Due To The Pandemic
The Illinois Department of Human Services estimates that there are approximately 414,000 vulnerable households that are experiencing housing insecurity in Illinois. An estimated 60,000 of these households are vulnerable to eviction in 2021. This is triple the number of evictions in Illinois in 2019, demonstrating the potential for a significant increase in COVID-19 related evictions. Housing insecurity caused by the pandemic affects a disproportionate number of low-income renters, disabled renters, veterans, and renters of color.

CHICAGO Chicagoans whove lost income due to COVID-19 will be eligible to receive some rental assistance thanks to two initiatives approved by the City Council on Wednesday.
The council approved Mayor Lori Lightfoots plan to create a $20 million rental assistance fund, as well as another effort to give an extra seven-day cooling off period for tenants facing eviction to negotiate a deal with their landlord.
More expansive eviction protection measures that were championed by the councils progressive aldermen including one that would have given renters a year to pay back missed rent have been relegated to a committee likened to legislative purgatory at the last two council meetings.
Those who sought the rental assistance in April will not have to re-apply, officials said. A new online portal is in the works for new applicants.

City Of Chicago To Provide $80 Million In Emergency Rental Assistance Due To Covid

CHICAGO — For those having trouble paying the rent, help is on the way. The City of Chicago is handing out nearly $80 million in emergency rental assistance.
Tenants and landlords impacted by the COVID-19 shutdown can apply for up to 15 months of assistance.
Applications are open online through June 8.
To be eligible, applicants must live in Chicago, be at risk of losing their homes, and have suffered hardship due to the pandemic.
Income limits are also in place.
This all comes as Illinois begins phasing out the statewide moratorium on evictions, which is set to expire by August.

Chicago Rental Assistance Deadline Extended To June 15
The application period for the Chicago Emergency Rental Assistance Program has been extended through June 15. The program, administered through the City of Chicagos Department of Housing, provides rental assistance to eligible community members who have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
ERAP will provide funds of up to 12 months of unpaid rent and three months of future rent payments for eligible tenants. To be eligible, you must:
