Columbia College Chicago: ACT Scores, Acceptance Rate

Columbias admissions application process is largely the same for all students regardless of their citizenship or country of residence. For more details, please visit the International Student Admissions webpage.

For admissions and financial aid purposes, students who are not citizens or permanent residents of the United States and who do not have refugee visas or asylum status are considered international and their applications are evaluated in a need-aware manner. This means that the admissions committee takes into consideration how much financial aid a student requires when rendering an admissions decision. Undocumented students, including DACA recipients, are evaluated through a need-blind process and are encouraged to visit our Undocumented Students webpage for more details.

To be considered for financial aid, international applicants must indicate their intention to apply for financial aid at the time of their admission application. International students who were admitted with no request for Columbia financial aid may not subsequently change their status to apply for aid, even if their family financial circumstances change. If financial aid is not awarded to an international student at the time of admission, it will not be awarded for any subsequent years.

Estimated 4 Year Cost At Published Tuition

At the current published rates, an estimated total tuition, fees and living expense price for a 4 year bachelor’s degree at Columbia College is $192,848 for students graduating in normal time. This methodology for estimating the 4 year cost is a straight multiple of the most recent reported annual total cost and does not factor in tuition increases during the time you’re in school. It also assumes you receive no grant or scholarship aid and pay the full list price.

A potentially more accurate but less conservative estimate of a degree cost can be made by using the school’s annual $27,934 in-state net price as the basis. Applying this cost over 4 would estimate the cost of a degree at $111,736**

If you end up on the “five year plan” and need an additional year to graduate, your five year cost could be as high as $241,060 or $139,670 using an average net price.

**Based on a 4 year multiple of Average Annual Net Price for students receiving grant or scholarship aid reported to the U.S. Department of Education’s 2018/2019 IPEDS Survey. Financial aid is only available to those who qualify. Consult this school’s net price calculator for further understanding of your potential net price.

How Your College Savings Can Reduce Your Child’s Future Student Loan Debt

Student Debt vsAnnual Income after Graduation

The more you save for your child before college, the less they will have to pay back after college. A good rule of thumb is to keep total debt less than your child’s expected annual income. That way they should be able to afford to repay their loans in 10 years or less.

Percent of Your Child’s Monthly Income that Goes into Paying Back Student Loan Debt

You’ll also want to compare your child’s monthly payments to their monthly income. Anything less than 10% is considered affordable, 15% is a stretch, and anything over 20% is not recommended.

This analysis is based on projections of college savings and college costs. It demonstrates the impact of savings on debt after graduation. The more you save, the less you’ll have to borrow. This tool can help you determine how much you need to save to ensure that your child graduates with an affordable amount of debt at each college or university.

This tool assumes that a college’s net price will continue to increase at the same rate as recent increases. It also assumes that the earnings in a college savings plan will reflect historical averages. Since past performance is not necessarily predictive of future performance, actual cost and return figures may vary. This tool is intended to educate consumers about the relationship between college savings and student loan debt.
