Funnyman Brian Shirley Returns To Savannah Comedy Revue
Almost 30 years ago, Brian Shirley was just getting his feet wet at a comedy workshop in Charleston. Now hes an actor, writer, producer, podcaster and stand-up comedian with some serious showbiz stamina.
Ive always kinda been weird and funny as a person, Shirley said. And my imagination based on real life reflects that.
According to Shirley, he joined the United States Air Force when he was 20 and after serving his time, bounced around working odd jobs before participating in a comedy workshop in Charleston. He explained that it was there where he really learned to use his voice.
I started out doing emcee work, Shirley said. A lot of comedians start that way and then work up from there until theyre good enough to be featured, which is 30 minutes on stage. The ultimate goal is to headline, which is what I do now.
Since launching his career, Shirley has toured the United States, Japan, Canada and the Bahamas performing stand-up comedy. Hes also been part of an improv troupe, hosted radio shows, published three comedy books, created three web series, appeared in independent films and web TV series, a music video for the Grammy Winning band Ranky Tanky called Good Time, and many more. In addition, hes worked with Rodney Carrington, Michael Winslow, Tim Wilson, Aisha Tyler, Billy Gardell, Josh Wolf, Dusty Slay, Basile, MJ Live, Diamond & Silk, Jimmy Walker and Huey Lewis and the News.

Why Choose The Second City
Whether you are a lifelong resident of Chicago or are just here for the weekend, your Chicago experience is not complete without a trip to a comedy club. Why wouldnt you go to the most prolific one in the city? Our list of alumni keeps growing you may just see the next Stephen Colbert up on stage! The performers are trained in the art of improvisation, meaning anything can happen, but you know it will be hilarious. Comedy doesnt have to be scripted. In fact, some of the most brilliant comedians were known for their ability to improvise their lines and make random adjustments to the script, making the movie or other performance even more enjoyable for audiences. You will find this same kind of ambiance when you attend one of our shows, regardless of which stage you choose.
Aside from shows, choose The Second City for training in the art of improv! Our teachers are also performers and have often been through a similar training program. These classes are a great way to learn a skillset that includes confidence, the ability to step out of your shell, and more. You do not need to want to be a comedian to enjoy our classes at this comedy club! Chicago’s Best Comedy Clubs
Located in Old Town, Second City is undoubtedly the crown jewel of comedy in Chicago. This is the place that put both sketch and improvised comedy on the map while launching the careers of many distinguished comics including Bill Murray, Tina Fey, Chris Farley, Keegan-Michael Key, Amy Sedaris, Stephen Colbert and Steve Carellto name a few. Opened in 2014, its new home on Belmont gives it two performance venues and classroom space all in the same building, as well as a homey bar where you can rub elbows with the next generation of comedy influencers.
Jamie Masada’s SoCal stand-up club empire established a Chicago foothold back in 2012, refurbishing the former Lakeshore Theater space. The club offers lineups of local comics several nights a week, with the occasional touring headliner. The venue’s main show, Chicagos Best Stand Up, offers the a rotating lineup of some of the city’s top laugh-makers.

More from Deadline
Although the closing announcement doesnt provide a reason, club owner Caroline Hirsch told The New York Post that the venues 10-year lease was due for a rent reset and building landlord felt they can get a lot more for the space. The Post identified the building owner as a Kuwaiti wealth fund.
Located at 750 Seventh Avenue in the heart of the Broadway theater district, Carolines has played host to such comedy superstars as Jerry Seinfeld, Gilbert Gottfried, Lewis Black, Billy Crystal, Jon Stewart, Larry David, Joy Behar, Jimmy Fallon, Michael Che, Robin Williams and Conan OBrien, as well as untold numbers of lesser-known talents.
