The Malcolm X College dental hygiene degree is certified by the Dental Hygiene School, City Colleges of Chicago.

The course takes place over up to 9 semesters and over 94 hours of teaching, with the first three semesters being part of the pre-dental hygiene pathway and including introductions to biology and the human structure.

Effective immediately, the Dental Hygiene program will no longer begin cohorts in Spring Semester. They will now begin in Fall Semester of each year. In addition, the prerequisite courses required for admission into the Dental Hygiene program are BIO 210- Anatomy and Physiology I, BIO 211- Anatomy and Physiology II, CHM 105- General Organic and Biochemistry, and BIO 225- Microbiology. The following required general education courses may be completed prior to admission to the Dental Hygiene program OR may be completed concurrently with the Dental Hygiene curriculum: MAT 120- Probabilities and Statistics or MAT 110 College Algebra, SPC 209- Interpersonal Communication or SPC 205- Public Speaking, PSY 201- General Psychology, SOC 101- Introduction to Sociology, ENG 101- English Composition I, and an Humanities Elective.

Complete Continuing Education To Retain Licensure

To renew licensure, you must submit a completed renewal application, license fee, and continuing education affidavit to the Board prior to September 30th of every third year. Renewal requires proof of thirty-six credits continuing education every two years.

Continuing education courses may be offered or sponsored by approved colleges, universities, and hospitals, or by recognized national, State and local dental and dental hygiene organizations.

Continuing education courses may include the following:
