In a post-Roe world, we need every option available to get the abortion care we need. Last night’s announcement from the FDA means that more people can get care in the way that best meets theirneeds.
Good news about NAF member Dr. Alan Braid. Although abortion is still banned in Texas, we will keep fighting against all efforts to criminalize abortion providers.
We are outraged at the Indiana AGs call to penalize NAF member @drcaitbernard for providing critical abortion care to a 10-year-old rape survivor. We support Dr. Bernard & stand against the harmful criminalization of providers for providing essential health care people need

Thanks to these beauty brands for supporting abortion access: @BenefitBeauty
The wins across the country last week are cause for celebration, but we can’t forget that the current reality of abortion access in the U.S. is grim. Its time for politicians to get the message and stop ignoring the will of the people.

How Often Should I See A Gynecologist
How often you should visit your gynecologist depends on your age, current health issues, future fertility plans, and any history of sexually transmitted disease.
- Young women, from teenagers to those around age 30, should see a gynecologisteach year. If you plan to become sexually active, you should see a gynecologist first to discuss birth control options and safe sex practices.
- For women over the age of 30 who have had at least 3 normal pap smears , a visit every 2-3 years may be sufficient. Pap smears might be suggested more frequently, however, if a woman is sexually active with more than one partner.
- Women over the age of 40 may need to be seen more frequently, particularly if they have high risk factors for certain kinds of cancers or genetic pelvic conditions.
- After age 70, if there have been no problems and no new sexual partners, many women can stop regular visits.

Illinois Abortion Clinics See Ripple Effects Of Roe Reversal As Surrounding States Implement Bans

FLOSSMOOR, Ill. One of the first patients to arrive at the clinic the day it resumed abortion procedures after the reversal of Roe v. Wade was a woman who had just driven nine hours from Arkansas.
The Planned Parenthood clinic here in Flossmoor has occasionally gotten patients from Texas after it severely restricted abortion access last year, but its out-of-state patients have been mainly from Indiana, less than 10 miles away, said Stephanie Navarro, the health center manager.
The woman from Arkansas was unusual in that regard. But much of the clinics staff took her arrival as a sign of whats to come.
That was out of the ordinary, Navarro said. But that is whats ahead for us now. Women will have to work harder to get to us.
Before leaving on the more than 500-mile drive back home, the woman told the staff at the clinic simply that Arkansas sucks, said a medical assistant who checked the woman out.
Arkansas abortion ban makes it illegal to perform an abortion or attempt to perform an abortion and it allows no exceptions for rape or incest.

How Chicagoans Can Help People In Nearby States Access Safe Abortions
Illinois clinics are gearing up for an influx of out-of-state patients and need your help.
CHICAGO The Supreme Court has overturned Roe v. Wade, ending abortion protections and touching off protests around the country, including in Chicago.
It has been known since early May the Supreme Court had voted to overturned Roe v. Wade, but the nations highest court did not officially release its decision until Friday morning. About half of states are expected to quickly ban abortions, and experts have said millions of people will soon live in abortion deserts where they cannot access care.
Though abortion rights will be protected in Illinois, the states health clinics will likely face an even greater influx of patients and could see themselves stretched thin, experts have said. Planned Parenthood Illinois could see two to five times as many out-of-state patients an estimated 20,000-30,000 coming to Illinois for abortion care, its president has said.
Here are some local groups working to help people access safe abortions. Do you know of a local organization that should be added to this list?
Midwest Access Coalition
The Midwest Access Coalition envisions a world in which all people have access to safe, free, legal abortions wherever they live. The Chicago-based nonprofit helps people traveling to, from, and within the Midwest access a safe abortion. They assist with travel coordination and costs, lodging, food, medicine, childcare and emotional support.

Though federal protections for abortion went away with the overturning of Roe v. Wade, abortion is still legal and available in Illinois. Make sure you know your rights!
Many states had or passed laws that banned abortion when Roe v. Wade was struck down. Illinois has a law keeping abortion legal: Governor JB Pritzker signed the ReproductiveHealth Act into law in 2019.
The Illinois Attorney General has provided specific guidance to law enforcement on abortion.

Gov Pritzker: Illinois Preparing For Potentially 30000 Out
The state is one of more than a dozen surrounding Illinois that has banned, severely restricted or is likely to ban abortion, making Illinois a refuge of sorts for people seeking such care.
Health care sites across the state have already started feeling reverberations in the form of high call volumes, often from patients who will scramble hundreds of miles to get to them.
Reproductive options have crumbled in the states neighboring Illinois, including Wisconsin, where a zombie law from 1849 banning abortions except to save the mothers life kicked in upon the reversal of Roe. Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin said it immediately suspended all abortions and is actively working with Illinois providers to redirect patients.
In Indiana, which did not have a trigger law banning abortions with the fall of Roe, as Arkansas did, the states attorney general has asked federal judges to lift orders blocking several state anti-abortion laws, and the Legislature will be taking up abortion restrictions during a special session scheduled to begin July 6.
Illinois is also the closest state to offer abortion services for people living in the South and other parts of the Midwest.
Planned Parenthood of Illinois anticipates it will see an additional 20,000 out-of-state patients annually, up from the roughly 1,000 it now serves each year.
The office is also actively recruiting and hiring medical assistants, Navarro said.
It was really intense.

The Clinic Operating Out Of An Rv Will Provide Consultations For Those Considering The Procedure As Well As Abortion Pills For Patients Who Are Still Within The First 11 Weeks Of Pregnancy
Planned Parenthood is launching a mobile clinic that will operate in Illinois and travel along the borders of states where abortions have been restricted or banned.
The clinic, operating out of an RV, will provide consultations for those considering the procedure as well as abortion pills for patients who are still within the first 11 weeks of pregnancy, Planned Parenthood said in a statement on Monday. Abortion is legal in Illinois, but has been banned in the bordering states of Kentucky and Missouri, with restrictions in other neighboring areas.
More
That has made Illinois an abortion refuge in the US heartland, with the state seeing a record influx of women seeking the procedure since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in June. About 30% of all abortions in Illinois are now being provided to residents from other parts of the country, Planned Parenthood said last month.
Over the past 100 days, Ive cared for people from across the country who traveled to southern Illinois for abortion care, said Colleen McNicholas, the chief medical officer for Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri. These patients are navigating a politically designed obstacle course to access abortion and other basic health care.
