Very Nice Museum With Some Outstanding Pieces From Various
Very nice museum with some outstanding pieces from various periods and famous artists. Even though not all of it was my taste, I like that most of it was true art, and not the modern wanna-be art that you see in other museums. It’s only a couple of floors, but it definitely feels much larger than that. You can easily spend a few hours in here. You are able to take pictures, and the security are very easy-going unless you get too close to a picture. Be aware that if you want an audio-guide, it’s an extra $7.00 per person.
Clean Safe Hotel Near Art Institute Of Chicago
At the beginning of May I will be arriving by train and am looking for something under $150 thats clean and safe. Im a woman traveling alone so I am concerned about safety. Any suggestions are much appreciated. Thanks!
If you provide your dates of travel, Id be happy to suggest hotels in your budget available on your dates.
Im arriving on Monday, May 5 and will just stay the one night.
This is going to be a tough one for under $150 and will really require use of discount services Priceline or Hotwire, as most nice/nicer hotels on this date are $250-300+
If you look up 2 adults , you will see a 3.5* in the Loop area with the amenities: fitness, restaurant, laundry and internet. $89. This would appear to be the Club Quarters Loop, which is about half way between the AI and the train station.
If you want a significantly nicer hotel , there is a also a 4* in the Mag Mile/Streeterville area for $159 with the amenities: fitness, business, restaurant, internet. $159. This could be the Westin River North, Hard Rock or Conrad, but given the 4.5/5 tripadvisor rating Im seeing on the detail page for this listing, it looks like a match for the Conrad Hilton, which is right on Michigan Ave. Thats a bit more of a hike from the train, but its not a far walk from the AI.
The Club Quarters area will likely be pretty quiet at night and the rooms are smaller, but for one night, it should be just fine. Plus, it would be essentially in-between the train station and the AI.

Palmer House A Hilton Hotel Has A Special Connection To The Art Institute Of Chicago
In 1922, the Art Institute of Chicago acquired much of the collection of Bertha Palmer and her husband, Potter Palmer. The core of their collection was their Impressionist paintings, which included works by artists such as Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Camille Pissarro, and Edgar Degas. Many of these paintings are now among the highlights of the museums permanent collection when the Palmers began collecting Impressionist art in the 1890s, however, it was considered radical, even controversial. It is due to Mrs. Palmers forward thinking, influence, and willingness to pursue her own taste rather than follow trends that Chicago is home to one of the greatest collections of Impressionism in the world.

There Are Not Enough Adjectives Available To Describe How
There are not enough adjectives available to describe how fantastic and impressive the Art Institute is. TIP- there are 2 entrances, one at the ‘Old Masters” or traditional end, and one at the Modern end. If you are meeting someone ‘at the entrance’- specify which one. Oh, and by the way, there are also two gift shops!! One at each entrance/exit- visit both. Tip- if you have any mobility issues at all, I suggest you rent a scooter. The Institute, and most of the rest of Chicago’s sights, involves a LOT of walking. There are several scooter rental companies, compare prices and scooter styles- I suggest the “travel” type that breaks down into several manageable pieces. ALWAYS bring the charging cord, and charge at every opportunity. That 45 minutes while you’re eating at the amazing bisrto is a great time to charge- ask the staff wherever you are for a plug-in, and take the key.
