Get An Inside Look At The Popular Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit Before Its Us Debut In Chicago
CHICAGO For weeks its been a flurry of work inside Chicagos historic Germania building as crews work feverishly to install the worlds most popular digital art exhibit to date.
Its a massive undertaking as the team works to transform the 19th century landmark building into a vibrant journey inside the life and works of Vincent Van Gogh.
We were isolated so long since last March, so its wonderful to bring this amazing art exhibit and this joy to Chicagoans, co-producer Irina Shabshis said.
Immersive Van Goghs first show was in Paris in 2019 before a sold-out run in Toronto. The shows opening in Chicago on February 11 will mark its first U.S. debut.
Brandon Charlton is the brain behind the exhibits technology, which uses 74 projectors, 14 miles of cable and one computer to immerse visitors in the color, brushstrokes and imagination of the Dutch post-Impressionist.
155 million pixels up there all being told what to do. Weve been trying to blend those together within an inch of their life, Charlton said.
To ensure visitor safety, there will be timed entry for the hour-long walkthrough, temperature checks and projected social distancing circles throughout the five galleries.
The 35-foot walls were bathed in color and light, immersing visitors into some of Van Goghs most iconic works of art like sunflowers and starry night.
A Truly Unique Experience
The exhibit is designed and conceived by Artistic Director Massimiliano Siccardi and features mood-setting music by Italian composer and pianist Luca Longobardi.
The exhibit isnt just van Goghs work projected onto walls, co-producer Corey Ross said in an original interview. The work also isnt shown in a linear timeline. Instead, Massimiliano Siccardi took a unique approach to create a story that flows through the piece to show what was flashing through van Goghs life. Its a very moving, and emotional, experience.
The exhibit also marks the grand opening of Lighthouse ArtSpace Chicago, a new venue within the recently renovated Germania Club Building.
This exhibit is custom designed for the Germania Club Building, and it incorporates the buildings Victorian Era architecture including walls, 35-foot ceilings, and mezzanines, Ross said in the interview. Patrons will walk through two giant ballrooms and side rooms, which will all be animated with moving projections of van Goghs work.

The majority of what is meaningful is accessible to children and those looking to add an Instagram backdrop.
The Dallas Museum of Art will host a Van Gogh exhibit beginning October 17. In the shows background, Don McLeans 1971 folk tuneVincent plays an important role. It is a bad documentary, according to one argument. The lifting has already begun in the entertainment industry. Beyond Van Gogh, like its ilk, strives to be cheap. Van Goghs paintings are distinguished by their form, the physical representation of one mans work, as well as the meaning of paint. In our digital age, digitizing and reducing images to planes causes us to lose this.

Who Created Beyond Van Gogh
Beyond Van Gogh is a Canadian art project that was started in 2006. The project is based on the idea that if Vincent van Gogh were alive today, he would be using modern technology to create his art. The project has been led by artist David Hockney and curator Simon Schama.
Beyond Van Gogh is a film that uses projection mapping, digital animation, music, and storytelling to tell the world through the eyes of an artist. There are 60,000 frames of video and 500,000 square feet of projection in the exhibit. Some paintings are digitally animated to depict the swirling cosmos, wind-whipped tree blossoms, and wheat fields. Beyond Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience will be on display at the Del Mar Fairgrounds from March 5 to March 12. A cascade of digital dots flows through the exhibits second room, dubbed the waterfall room. In the final room, the floor and wall have been digitally mapped with Van Govs paintings. Beyond Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience is a vivid display of the world. The animations create a mood of chaos by blowing tree limbs and petals across the walls, as well as starlight gleams and swirls. Approximately one-third of visitors spend an hour or more in the exhibition, according to Curtat.
