Jewish Federation Of Metropolitan Chicago

Achieving Net Zero Carbon With Real Assets

JCFS Chicago – 2020 A Striking Event

The Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago, a nonprofit that provides humanitarian services, is splitting with its chief investment officer and will soon outsource the $1 billion endowments asset management, according to a letter to investors obtained by Institutional Investor.

The Jewish United Fund oversees a pool consisting of its own assets and money from other nonprofits, all notified in a Nov. 16 letter from JFMC that Edgehill Endowment Partners will begin investing for the charity in January. JFMC chairman Michael Zaransky and executives said in the letter that the funds costs should remain generally consistent with Edgehill in place, and their interests will be strongly aligned through an incentive-based component of their agreement.

Edgehill, based in New Haven, Connecticut, was founded in 2013 by Ellen Shuman and Nina Scherago, both of whom previously worked at high-profile U.S. nonprofits. Shuman is a David Swensen protégé from Yale Universitys endowment and ex-CIO of the Carnegie Corp. Scherago was deputy CIO of The Investment Fund for Foundations, known as TIFF, and spent a decade with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, according to the letter.

Having built the equivalent of an OCIO business under a non-profit umbrella, its certainly bittersweet to be overseeing the transition to a third-party, he said. But its the right decision at the right time.

How Do I Benefit From A Loje

In addition to receiving an immediate income tax deduction for your endowment , Lion ofJudah Endowment donors enjoy an elite camaraderie and proudly wear the Or L’Atid flame on their Lion of Judah Pin, an attractive LOJE pin thatannounces to the Jewish world that they have taken action to ensure Jewish continuity and survival.

Why Should I Establish A Loje

Locally, LOJE funds will enhance the Jewish people through education and other community programs that bond us to our Jewish heritage. Worldwide, endowment funds will help Israel continue to flourish as a home and safe haven for Jews. By providing a permanent endowment through a LOJE, you will help JUF prepare both for needs we can anticipate and for unexpected occurrences.

Nonprofit organizations that spend $750,000 or more in Federal grant money in a fiscal year are required to submit an audit covering their finances and compliance. Some of these are program specific, while others, called single audits, look at the entire organization. Nonprofit Explorer has PDFs of these audits for some nonprofits for fiscal year 2016 and later. Theyre provided by the Federal Audit Clearinghouse.
