Oral And Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral and maxillofacial surgery is surgery to correct a wide spectrum of diseases, injuries and defects in the head, neck, face, jaws, and the hard and soft tissues of the oral and maxillofacial region. It is a recognized international surgical specialty, and it is one of the nine specialties of dentistry recognized by the American Dental Association.

What Are Dental Implants

Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

are titanium tooth root replacements which are inserted into the jaw where teeth are missing. They are surgically placed into the jawbone and over time the bone bonds with the titanium and creates a strong foundation for teeth or dentures. In the case of individual teeth crowns are then attached to the implants, above the gums, to provide the visible tooth. In regards to dentures, the implants are equipped with button or snap type clasps to provide the dentures with superior retention. By increasing denture retention the quality of chewing is improved and lessens loose dentures. In addition to the obvious esthetic and functional benefits, implants also help preserve facial structure, preventing the natural bone deterioration that occurs with tooth loss.
