Phantom Of The Opera Chicago

Chicago Or Phantom Of The Opera

Broadway In Chicago – The Phantom of The Opera

this will be our first show – we want to go to Broadway – any tips on which shows are best?

We will be in NYC from 10th Dec to 17th Dec.

Ive seen Phantom three times, and am planning to go back for my 4th time next month. I’ve seen Chicago and liked it, but have no plan to go back.

I have seen both and definately liked phantom better.

Chicago was one of the greatest shows, and this production is stark and intense. And very, very tired. I’ve been many times to both shows, and the last time I saw Chicago the performers were sleep-walking through. Zero energy. Yet, even though Phantom’s been running for around 17 years, it’s gorgeous.

My other choice would be Hairspray.

Agree with Bettina about Hairspray, I also love Fiddler on the Roof, which will be closing in January.

Can’t say that I loved Phanton, but to each his/her own. Most people love it, I didn’t.

Wicked is also very good, as is The Lion King& Beauty & the Beast.

Chicago for dance, Phantom for song and plot.

Definitely Phantom. Chicago was good, but I love the story of Phatom even though it doesn’t follow the book well.

Also, The Odd Couple opens this month if you are interested.

The Lion King.

You really have to be in a certain type of mood for The Phatom of the Opera. It is great, but I will not reccomend it for a first timer.

Chicago is great as well, but I will not reccomend to the conservative or religious frame of minds.

The Lion King is my vote. It has the best costumes, dancing, singing, and excitement.

Chicago Tribune- Somewhat Recommended

“…Assuming you can understand him, John Cudia makes for a sexier, somewhat more outre Phantom than many of his predecessors. And while she struggles at the edges of her role’s notoriously difficult vocal range, Sara Jean Ford is a pleasant Christine.”

Chicago Sun Times- Recommended

“…The first-rate cast in this touring production also brings an intriguing degree of realism to their roles. John Cudia is a most imposing Phantom, with a clarion voice and unaffected acting style.”

SouthtownStar- Highly Recommended

“…Although it’s the fifth incarnation of the legendary musical, it proves you can never get too much of a good thing. The show, about a masked musical genius who lives beneath the Paris Opera House, is as good as theater gets. It is at the top of my list of the greatest musicals ever.”

Windy City Times- Highly Recommended

“…Opening with a cadaverous auctioneer shilling Lot 666, and closing in the echo of a thousand tri-note minor chords, The Phantom of the Opera is pure escapism, an opiate of hallucinatory spectacle. And say what you will about the subtle-as-an-acid-bath book, Webbers got a snappy shorthand when it comes to capturing certain universal elements of the Human Condition.”

Local Actors Return To Chicago For The Penultimate Stop Of ‘phantom’ Tour

Local audiences have one last chance to capture “The Phantom of the Opera” at Chicago’s Cadillac Palace Theatre — at least in its current traveling form.

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s global blockbuster musical returns for the third time in director Laurence Connor’s 2012 touring version from Dec. 18 to Jan. 5. Then, his “Phantom” moves on to Toronto, where it closes in February.

That’s according to two local actors who star in supporting roles. Susan Moniz of Des Plaines plays strict ballet mistress Madame Giry. She somehow knows secrets to the murderous Phantom , who obsessively stalks rising soprano star Christine Daaé .

Meanwhile, Chicago actor Rob Lindley plays Monsieur André opposite David Benoit as Monsieur Firmin, the new co-managers of the “Opera Populaire” . Lindley describes Firmin as the money man, while André is more of an artistic director.

“Phantom” is Lindley’s first tour, and he’s been with it for almost two years. For someone used to beginning productions from scratch, Lindley had to learn fast on his feet.

“But within that, the creative team welcomes your own individual artistic expression,” Lindley said. “It was unlike anything I’ve experienced before.”

The Phantom Of The Opera Tickets:

Phantom of the Opera is an epic tale of love, obsession, jealousy, danger, and loss. Based on the 1910 novel, which has been adapted many times into films and various productions. The Phantom of the Opera tells the story of a deformed composor who haunts a grand Opera House and watches performances and audiences. He begins composing operas for the young rising soprano, Christine, and the events that occur as she becomes famous, and reunited with a past suitor explore his murderous reactions and madness. This timeless tale of jealousy, madness and terror is not to be missed!

Phantom may be the riskiest reboot. Even Mackintosh regards the dark, shiny fable of the tortured, disfigured Phantom and the sweet soprano Christine as the most beautiful of my big shows. The new version is deliberately more prosaic. Its more realistic in many ways, Mackintosh says, drawing a comparison to the well-known set and costume design by Maria Bjornson, who died in 2002. The original doesnt attempt theatrical realism.

There is a realer sense of a backstage, of a theater world, says new Phantom scenic designer Paul Brown, whose career has been mainly in the opera realm. The glamour is only makeup deep.
