They currently have over 2400 members who perform every aspect of Carpentry, including but not limited to: caissons, foundations, bridges and infrastructure, interior systems, millwork production and installation, windows and treatments, and flooring.

Chicago Regional Council Of Carpenters Adds 20000 Members Under International Union Restructuring

The Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters is poised to become one of the largest regional labor unions in the country under a restructuring arrangement that will add 20,000 members, boosting the Chicago Carpenters Unions which will now represent more than 50,000 working men and women across Illinois, Missouri, Kansas and Eastern Iowa. The Chicago Regional Council will continue to provide the construction and maintenance industries with productive, competitive and certified professionals, encompassing a wide variety of crafts and skills.

This week, United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America General President Douglas McCarron announced that geographical and trade jurisdiction of the former St. Louis-Kansas City Carpenters Regional Council has been assigned to the Chicago Regional Council. McCarron said the decision was made as a means to increase oversight of operations, reduce costs, maximize available resources, and increase market competitiveness.

Gary Perinar, Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the Chicago Regional Council, said he welcomed the new reorganization, which will make the already formidable union even stronger.

The Secretary of Labor filed a complaint against the Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters alleging that the CRC violated sections 401 and of the Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act of 1959, 29 U.S.C. §§ 481 , during its July 9, 2005 election. The Court permitted Jeff Fearon, one of the union members whose complaint triggered the lawsuit, to intervene in the case. The Secretary and the CRC have filed a motion for entry of a stipulation of settlement and order effectively, a consent decree. Fearon has raised several objections to the proposed stipulation. For the reasons stated below, the Court approves the stipulation over Fearons objections.

City Colleges of Chicago is proud to announce the signing of an Articulation of Prior Learning Transfer Agreement with the Mid-America Carpenters Regional Council Apprentice and Training Fund. This newest agreement between CCC and the Carpenters Union will allow journeymen carpenters to apply their education and training experiences towards a degree at Kennedy-King College, and, for the first time, allow students who successfully complete their basic certificate in carpentry at Kennedy-King to receive advanced placement in the Funds pre-apprenticeship program.

This agreement is a significant step toward ensuring our citys values of equity and inclusion are felt throughout our educational system and our unions, said Mayor Lightfoot. These two values are absolutely critical to our ability to empower our students as they pursue their education as well as the growth and transformation of our unionsto reflect the experiences of the people they serve. The CCC Construction Management degree requires 65 credit hours. CCC can award up to 30 credit hours toward an Associate of Applied Sciences in Construction Management to participants who successfully complete the coursework. Before Dissolution Regional Council Was Major Player In Missouri Politics

Restructuring will move thousands of union carpenters from Missouri under the Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters.

The United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America has dissolved its St. Louis-Kansas City Regional Council and merged the union locals into its Chicago Regional Council.

The restructuring leaves the Chicago group with more than 50,000 members across Illinois, Missouri, Kansas City and eastern Iowa, according to the unions announcement.

It also leaves Al Bond, the executive secretary-treasurer of the St. Louis-Kansas City branch, ousted from his position, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Bond couldnt immediately be reached and a local union spokesperson didnt respond to inquiries about the restructuring.

The St. Louis union has been heavily involved in local politics, giving thousands of dollars to politicians via a PAC in recent years, politics donations-tracking website OpenSecrets shows. And the union has put its weight behind failed proposals to merge St. Louis city and county governments and to privatize St. Louis Lambert International Airport. That led to speculation among some that politics may have played a role in the decision to remove Bond.

Douglas J. McCarron, carpenters’ general president, said in a statement that the change was made in order to increase operations oversight, reduce costs, maximize resources and to increase market competitiveness.

Perinar added that the move would make the union stronger.
