Two new restaurants are slated to open in the on September 30. On the ground floor, a former bank will house the . 312 Chicago on the corner of Randolph St and LaSalle St is pretty good for Italian food. A little further walk and on the other side of the Chicago River, west of the Civic Opera Bldg., Proxi at 565 W. Randolph, is outstanding .

Proxi and Sepia share the same chef, Andrew Zimmerman. Sepia is fancier and pricier. Avec and Blackbird are both chef Paul Kahan’s restaurants. Blackbird is the fancier, fine dining place, really one of Chicago’s best and it’s a shame to eat and run, IMO Avec is more casual . I haven’t been to Gibson’s Italia it’s a steak place, so $$$$.

My favorite nearby is Porter Kitchen & Deck. I enjoy both the food and the river location. I like the food and view at Gibsons Italia but Ive found the service to be uneven so I personally wouldnt chance it timewise before a show. Also literally across the street from the opera house – Rivers – not innovative or cutting-edge cuisine, but it gets the job done.
