Rock N Roll Chicago Half Marathon
It was a humid and rainy day for the 10th annual Humana Rock n Roll Chicago Half Marathon. This race is a Chicago classic known for its scenic course throughout some of the best Chicago landmarks, live music along the course, and finish line festival with close to 15,000 runners. It is a huge event in addition to the half marathon, there is 5K and 10k distance to pick from.
The Rock n Roll series has a two-day expo with great vendors and fun race merchandise and apparel. The Health and Fitness Expo is at McCormick Place, located in the south loop neighborhood its not my favorite venue, or most convenient to get to, but due to the size of this race it makes sense.
This is my second time running this event the last time I ran it was 10 years ago! The race organizers treated me to a VIP experience, including private pre/post race tent, gear checking and body messages. Unfortunately, with the crazy rainy conditions, I did not get a chance to enjoy all of these awesome perks, but it is a great upgrade for those of you looking for some extra special treatment.
Something that got my attention was the size of the bibs I personally thought they were a bit large and I overheard lots of people saying the same thing. On the other hand, the race T-shirt and finisher medal were nicely designed.

Set for its 12th annual running this year under the Rock & Roll marathon banner, the Rock n Roll Chicago Half Marathon is part of a tradition of huge, diverse road races in the Windy City that draw runners from around the country and whose winners make headlines across the country every year.
In its first year as a Rock n Roll-themed race after more than 30 years as the Chicago Distance Classic, the oldest running event of its kind in Chicago, the event saw more than 14,000 runners cross the finish line. And again last year, more than 14,000 runners crossed the finish line in the half marathon and 5k races combined.
The 13.1-mile course for the race starts and finishes in Grant Park, the 319-acre park on the citys downtown lakefront that is home to the world-famous Buckingham Fountain and the Art Institute of Chicago, both seen in many movies but perhaps most cleverly in Ferris Buellers Day Off.
A newly revamped course for the Rock n Roll Chicago race debuted recently, designed to incorporate more of downtown Chicagos city streets and to include a crossing over the Chicago River.
The race route takes runners through the streets of the Windy Citys downtown for the first two-thirds or so of the race, unfolding with a stretch outside Grant Park and heading out toward the Navy Pier. Runners will cross over the Chicago River twice in the first couple of miles, and then twice again right after passing the mile 3 marker.

The 2022 Life Time Chicago Half Marathon Series is comprised of 2 events the 2022 Life Time Chicago Spring Half Marathon and the 2022 HOKA ONE ONE Chicago Half Marathon.
Participants who complete both the Life Time Chicago Spring Half Marathon and the HOKA Chicago Half Marathon within the same calendar year will earn a 3rd medal that recognizes their outstanding athletic achievement.
