Where To Find Rocky Horror In Chicago
Last Halloween, I reignited my teenage love of The Rocky Horror Picture Show when a friend suggested we check out a live performance of the 1975 cult classic. I hadn’t been to one of the infamously interactive screenings in years, but the moment I saw those familiar red lips appear on the screen, it all came flooding back, and I suddenly longed for the fishnets and pearl necklace I had packed away long ago. This year, I’m more determined than ever to see as much of Tim Curry in a corset as I possibly can, so these are my best bets for a very Rocky Halloween.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a 1975 musicalcomedy horror film by 20th Century Fox, produced by Lou Adler and Michael White and directed by Jim Sharman. The screenplay was written by Sharman and actor Richard O’Brien, who is also a member of the cast. The film is based on the 1973 musical stage productionThe Rocky Horror Show, with music, book, and lyrics by O’Brien. The production is a parody tribute to the science fiction and horror B movies of the 1930s through to the early 1960s. Along with O’Brien, the film stars Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, and Barry Bostwick and is narrated by Charles Gray with cast members from the original Royal Court Theatre, Roxy Theatre, and Belasco Theatre productions including Nell Campbell and Patricia Quinn.
The story centres on a young engaged couple whose car breaks down in the rain near a castle where they seek a telephone to call for help. The castle or country home is occupied by strangers in elaborate costumes celebrating an annual convention. They discover the head of the house is Dr. Frank N. Furter, an apparently mad scientist who actually is an alien transvestite from the planet Transsexual in the galaxy of Transylvania, who creates a living muscle man named Rocky in his laboratory.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show Live
Running for its third consecutive year, 2013’s production of the cult-classic-turned-mainstream, “The Rocky Horror Picture Show Live” brings some gears and grunge to the Chopin with a Steampunk theme, in the company’s largest and most ambitious production to date. Catapulting off of two previous productions which were called “wild, raunchy, unabashed fun,” a “rousing holiday treat,” and “not to be missed,” Lauren Lundy’s directorial debut pulls out all the stops, with live foley sound effects produced STOMP-style by the ensemble, incorporation of the original film, and a newly re-arranged score, with greater soloist emphasis, featuring dueling guitars and updated arrangements in a raw, stripped-down punk-rock style. Join us for the making of a man who’s more than just blond hair and a tan–he’s got some cogs turning, and we don’t mean that metaphorically!
