Who We Are What We Believe Our Mission

We are Salem Baptist Church of Chicago, we are a Bible believing, Bible preaching church.

Birthed in 1985, with 193 members, Salem has served as an oasis of hope within the Chicagoland area. Today, Salem has over 9,000 members and 10 ministries to choose from.

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,

maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and buried. The third day he rose from the dead he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the local and universal church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Brutal Attack On Chicago Pastor And Wife: Attacker Gouged Eyes And Bit Off Parts Of Ears

Faith In Crisis
  • Posted on

A man attacked Pastor Timothy Johnson of Chicagos Salem Baptist Church and his wife, Renee, a special education teacher, on May 1, 2021. The couple was doing yard work for her 95-year-old mother at her South Side Chicago home.

The Chicago SunTimes reports the attack happened while Mr. Johnson was cleaning up the alley behind his mother-in-laws house, and a man approached him asking if hed buy something. After politely declining the attacker, 28-year-old Elijah Rule Hill Prince hit Johnson in the head with the shovel the victim was using to clean up the alley. Prince then, like out of a horror movie, gouged out Mr. Johnsons eyes with his fingers and took a bite out of his ear and the top of his head.

After hearing the disturbing encounter, Johnsons wife, Renee, rushed to his side in an attempt to stop the assailant. Prince then pulled her hair, gouged her eyes, and bit off parts of her ears as well. When Mrs. Johnson fell to the ground, Prince kicked her in the head multiple times.

Mr. Johnson was somehow able to call 911 after he pulled out a wooden object that the attacker had shoved in his eye. Prince ran off after someone who saw what was happening yelled at him.

The attacker was later found covered in the victims blood and arrested, and he was later admitted to a hospital for psychiatric examination. Judge John F. Lyke Jr. ordered Prince to be held on $5M bail and said the prosecutions testimony was like listening to a horror movie.

Primary And Secondary Schools

Education is compulsory for ages 717 in Illinois. Schools are commonly, but not exclusively, divided into three tiers of primary and secondary education: elementary school, or , and high school. District territories are often complex in structure. Many areas in the state are actually located in two school districtsone for high school, the other for elementary and middle schools. And such districts do not necessarily share boundaries. A given high school may have several elementary districts that feed into it, yet some of those feeder districts may themselves feed into multiple high school districts.
