Experience The Only German Sub In The Us In This Dramatic Exhibit And National War Memorial To American Sailors

Museum of Science and Industry Chicago Tour & Review

The U-505 submarine has amazed Museum guests since 1954, and now has a captivating exhibit to match its scale and dramatic capture. How did U-boat technology work? What was life like on the sub? How was the capture kept secret? This riveting wartime story comes alive.

The exhibit is accessible to wheelchairs, Segways and strollers. Optional on-board tours have limited accessibility. See accessibility notes.

The German Submarine Is Worth The Visit

Be prepared for an overwhelming museum. Lots of things to do. Getting to see the German world war II sub was very interesting. What really threw us off was the there were many not included in admission visits, including the sub. (Need to get tickets at main entrance and no one told us about it, so it was a bit frustrating. We got to see the D Day movie and it was great.

This place is IMMENSE with so many incredible exhibits and beautiful installations. Plan on a couple/few days if you want to experience it all, but dont miss the it if you have kids and are visiting Chicago.

We really loved the Walt Disney Archives exp! Its definitely a museum for all ages. Be sure to have plenty of time because its huge!

An outstanding place to visit and ranks up there with the Chicago Institute of Art. Make sure to give yourself at least 1/2 a day for your visit, if possible.

Not to be missed! Tons of stuff to see, do and experience, with or without kids. The exhibits are well maintained, not run down like other Science museums. The U-505 exhibit and tour are excellent. Best science museum Ive ever been to.

A Few Years Ago We Realized We Needed To Be More Sophisticated With How We Send Emails

Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry | Inside Out | Time Out

We outgrew Mailchimp. We needed something more sophisticated. Steven Beasley

Its important to engage people on a one-on-one level, says Shawn Hackett, MSIs Manager of CRM. People expect that now. And your message needs to be right if its wrong, people notice. We care about our guests and we want to show that.

The Museum of Science and Industry has always been a quick adopter of new tech and digital strategy. They embraced email marketing early on .

MSI began their email strategy with Mailchimp but Mailchimp limited the Museum to sending basic email campaigns to their entire list.

A few years ago we realized we needed to be more sophisticated with how we sent emails, Steven says. Mailchimp was simple. Too simple.

Why did MSI need to be more sophisticated?

They didnt want to email everyone the exact same messages: Without the ability to set conditions or segment their list, they couldnt create personalized customer experience automations . MSI needed a way to collect and consolidate information about their 350,000+ active contacts.

They found their solution when they chose ActiveCampaign as their CXA platform and Salesforce as their CRM platform.

If you have 350,000+ active contacts, chances are they arent interested in the same things. So why would you send them the same email? Content thats not relevant gets ignored: Let your subscribers decide what emails they get.

The Art Of The Brick: Msis Newest Special Exhibit

In the first hall, visitors will find replicas of famous masterpieces such as Starry Night by Van Gogh, or Rodins The Thinker. The exhibits creator, Nathan Sawaya, also includes quite a few larger-than-life original pieces, ending with a 20-foot Tyrannosaurus Rex and a replica of Chicago Artist Hebru Brantleys Flyboy.

The second hall includes even more original and reimagined works, as well as a LEGO infused photography collection. We were very impressed to see beautiful photographs, where items were replaced with LEGO imagery. The attention to detail and creativity in each piece was truly remarkable.

Looking at all of these pieces certainly had us feeling inspired. Luckily, no trip to this exhibit would be complete without some time to play with LEGOs, too. The One Brick Studio invites families use LEGOs as a means to express their emotions. Families were asked to build something representing one of six different emotions, then have their family members guess which one they created.

Get Your Entire Family Into Your Favorite Chicago Attractions For Free On Specific Days This Winter

Do you love visiting museums? Do you love visiting museums for FREE? Weve put together our list of special days when we know Chicago museums offer free admission in January-March of 2022.

2022 looks a bit different for free museum days. Some popular museums have pushed pause temporarily on the free days practice and some arent open at all right now. As the year proceeds , hopefully more free days will return.

COVID-19 safety protocols are in place with some variation. Some venues may still require proof of vaccination for entry because of Chicagos Public Health Order No. 2021-2. Check all COVID-related protocols before your visit, including whether masks are required or recommended, whether timed entry reservations are required, whether coat checks are operating, or whether concessions are open or closed. Remember that Chicago may follow a different timeline than the state of Illinois for altering restrictions.

The days listed below are mostly free for Illinois residents. That means you must provide valid Illinois proof of residency a drivers license or state I.D. usually suffices.

Weve also included the average free day savings for a family of four so you can see how beneficial these are to your family budget. For many museums, the kid price applies to children 3-11, but sometimes its 13 and under. Always look at the fine print.

And finally, another option to save money on your Chicago visit avoid parking charges and take the train.

How Does Msi Push Back Against False Familiarity

What is false familiarity? Its when youre positive that youre familiar with something but actually? Youre not.

Talk to anyone who has worked at the Museum of Science and Industry and youll hear the same story play out in 3 acts:

  • A MSI staff member tells a friend they work at MSI
  • The friend is excited because they know the Museum well
  • The friend gushes to the MSI staff member how much they enjoyed their last visit to the museum20 years ago, in the 8th grade.
  • Everyone thinks the Museum of Science and Industry is an amazing place the version that exists in their mind, that is. They remember the Museum as it was the last time they visited, and they think that the Museum that exists today is exactly the same as it was back then.

A picturephone!? If you remember being wowed by this futuristic concept at the Museum of Science and Industry, it might be time for another visit .

Science and industry are ever-evolving: Why would the Museum be any different?

MSI uses email marketing automation to show past guests the value in coming back. That means understanding the kinds of exhibits guests want to see.
