Festivities kick off at Pullman City Market with a collection of food trucks and vendors including Tatas Tacos from Portage Park, Whadda Jerk from Ukrainian Village, and Chicagos Dog House near DePaul. Cheesecake-on-a-stick specialists Elis Cheesecake will host a cake cutting, and attendees can take a dance lesson with music from local DJs. Elis will host a Taste pop-up on July 10 outside its Dunning headquarters, teaming up with Robinsons No. 1 Ribs who will have a food truck.
The following days will follow a similar pattern, highlighting an assortment of vendors alongside cultural activities and education, including a Puerto Rican cooking lesson from chef Roberto Pérez founder of Urban Pilón . The Taste will also hold cooking demonstrations at the Hatchery, a food business incubator with ghost kitchens in Garfield Park. The event will close out Sunday with the Lets Talk Womxn Picnic in White, a gathering in Millennium Park with $45 picnic box lunches with items from a number of Chicago restaurants including Antique Tacos Ashley Ortiz, Pretty Cool Ice Creams Dana Salls-Cree, and Fronteras Deann Bayless. The effort brings together women restaurateurs as means to bolster economic power. Place pre-orders for the event online by Thursday, July 8.

Review all the restaurants ahead of time and decide where you want to go. You can pick up a map when you buy tickets and take a look. I skip all the usual suspects that I can eat anytime like wings, pizza, hot dogs, and restaurants I can eat at anytime. I hit the good restaurants that are located in areas of the city that I rarely or never venture in to.

While you might not get to try all the different types of food from all the stalls and trucks at The Taste, theres one thing you really shouldnt miss. Chocolate dipped cheesecake on a stick. Hotels Near Taste Of Chicago
There are a number of hotels near Taste of Chicago. If you want to work off the good food you will no doubt be eating at the Taste of Chicago Festival, consider booking a room at the Buckingham Athletic Club Hotel. Overlooking Lake Michigan, the Buckingham Athletic Club Hotel is located on the 40th floor of the Chicago Stock Exchange building. This 21-room boutique hotel is considered downtown Chicago’s best kept secret. As the hotel name implies, the Buckingham Athletic Club hotel has a well-equipped, private fitness facility, which is located on the third floor of the building. It features a four-lane lap pool, eucalyptus steam room and sauna, basketball courts, massage therapy, and fitness classes that include yoga and Pilates.
Other hotels near taste of Chicago include Le Meridian, Sutton Place, Ramada Inn and the majestic Hotel. Given their proximity to Grant’s Park, these hotels will probably charge the highest rate, especially during the time of the Taste of Chicago Festival. However, keep in mind that Chicago has an excellent public transportation system. Street Art In Graffiti Alley
This is no dark alleyway art, but more Graffiti al fresco. The Graffiti artists, shaded from the sun under copious awnings, work on their latest masterpiece on huge canvases rather than bricks or cement.
You can watch as their latest designs take form before your eyes. They really do have incredible talent. You might well be tempted to purchase one of the finished items, but if you are and youre travelling home on the subway, you just might find it a bit of a tight fit going through the doors.

How To Chow Down
Youll need to pre-purchase tickets at the special ticket booths which you then swap for food at the stalls.
They do take credit cards at the ticket booth, but youll find paying cash is a lot faster. The tickets come in strips of fourteen for around $10. Expect to be seriously spoilt for choice once you hit the food stalls as just about every ethnic cuisine is represented at The Taste Chicago.
If you want to try as many new taste experiences as you possibly can, ask for a taster portion. Theyre much smaller than meal-size portions, wont fill you up quickly and youll get more variety of food for your tickets. Youll be looking at handing over one to six tickets for a taster and anywhere up to twenty for a meal.
Sheriff’s Deputy Shot During Traffic Stop In Grundy County
On Thursday, July 8, the Austin Town Hall City Market on 5610 W. Lake St. will host food vendors, food trucks and Chicago city market vendors starting at noon. Free music will begin at 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. and Get Growing Foundations Plant Truck Chicago will do a free DIY terrarium workshop.
On Friday, July 9, Puerto Rican food, coffee and storytelling will be available at ¡WEPA! Mercado del Pueblo at 2559 W. Division St. starting at 4 p.m. Boricua novelist, Marisel Vera, will be featured during the event. From 5 to 8 p.m. Goose Island Brewerys Tap Room will offer Goose Islands brews and a “Taste of Chicago” pint that will only be available that night.
On Saturday, July 10, Chicago To-Go will expand to three separate locations. At The Hatchery at 135 N. Kedzie Ave., Taste of the West Side will offer live music, food demos, local businesses and an art installation starting at 10 a.m. Separately, at Elis Cheesecake Company on 6701 W. Forest Preserve Dr., Eli’s Cheesecake and Robinsons No. 1 Ribs will partner in offering specialty cheesecakes, a selection of ribs and live music. Later at 1 p.m., in the West Englewood community on 6300 S. Wood St., guests can purchase food from local eateries, visit the beer garden and relax in dining tents while enjoying local DJs, musicians and dancers. There will also be activities for the kids to enjoy.

Super Quick Supper Dish Of Patacones With Guacamole
Patacones, twice-fried plantain, are super simple to make. All youll need is a couple of green plantain. Green are best as the ripe ones are just too soft. Peel them and cut them into discs about ½ cm thick. Shallow fry the slices in olive oil until theyre just starting to turn golden. Take them out of the oil and drain them on kitchen paper.
The secret to making good patacones is what you do next. Lay each half-cooked disc between two layers of kitchen paper and squash them with the ball of your hand. When youve flattened them all, its time to finish frying them. Pop them back in the oil until theyre crispy and golden, drain them, add a sprinkle of sea salt and theyre ready to enjoy.

Just scoop the soft flesh of two ripe avocados into a blender, add a squeeze of lime juice, half a red chile or less if youre not into anything too spicy, half a red onion roughly chopped long with a diced tomato. You can add some fresh coriander too if youve got some to hand. Give it all a good whizz up and then spoon it into a dish.

History Of The Taste Of Chicago Festival
The first Taste of Chicago Festival was held in the summer of 1980. It was the brainchild of Jane Byrne, who was the presiding Mayor of Chicago at that time. At first, the Taste of Chicago was a one-day event held on the Fourth of July. It took place along downtown Chicago’s North Michigan Avenue. Due to its popularity, it was moved to Grant Park, and expanded to a ten-day festival.

Taste Of River North Cancels 2021 Festival
The River North Residents Association, along with theMART and Duff Entertainment, have announced the cancellation of the 2021 edition of Taste of River North. It is with a heavy heart that I must inform you of our decision to cancel the 2021 Taste of River North and issue refunds to all those who purchased tickets in advance. On behalf of our board members and our Executive Director, Mickie Gordon, I would like to thank Duff Entertainment, theMART management team and our valued sponsors, said Mike Riordan, River North Residents Association President. Despite everyones passion and dedication over the past few months, the inescapable fact is that much of our wonderful hospitality community has not yet recovered sufficiently from the pandemic and its consequences to their operations. Many River North restaurants would love to participate, but their depleted resources are understandably dedicated to keeping their businesses up and running as best they can. Trying to accommodate a large public event is just not possible at this time.
However, event organizers are optimistic about celebrating when the time is right.
All who purchased advance tickets will be issued a refund.
Chicago Skys Playoff Dominance
Things couldnt have gone any better once the playoffs began, because before we entered the postseason, the team had only won two of their final six games. But in the Chicago Sky finals run, their 6-1. They crushed their first two opponents in the opening rounds, crushing the Dallas Wings 81-64 and then taking care of the Minnesota Lynx with a 89-76 win. Their semifinal matchup couldve gone a lot worse after they went 1-1 in the first two games. Game one took two overtimes to finish, and in game two, the Connecticut Suns held our girls to 68 points. This would be their worst playoff performance, and their only loss of the postseason. The Sky won the next two games at home as they crushed teams on their way back to the WNBA Finals. Its their first appearance since 2014, where they were swept 0-3 by none other than our current finals opponent, the Phoenix Mercury.

What Led To This Chicago Sky Finals Run
Well, it started with the signing of one key free-agent and Illinois native, Candace Parker. The two-time WNBA champion certainly used her winning experience to bring us back to the promise-land. Next, came the 2021 WNBA Draft that helped further along this Chicago Sky finals run with some young depth.
After the draft and free agency period ended, the Chicago Sky opened their 2021 season on the road with a victory against the Washington Mystics. Game two took place outside of Chicago too, and ended similarly with a win against Atlanta. Their next game was their home opener against the New York Liberty on Sunday, May 23. They would lose that game 93-85, and go on a 7 game losing streak.
But, things change fast in professional sports. The girls countered their losing streak with a 7-game winning streak that took place nearly all of June, and reignited a potential Chicago Sky finals run. When the regular season was all said and done, the teams record was 16-16. They were back in the WNBA playoffs for the third year in a row.
