In addition to the pop-up Taste events, the weekend will include live music at a handful of restaurants throughout Chicago. The free performances include:

Taste Of Chicago Food Festival
The Taste of Chicago Food Festival, Americas biggest food festival is held in Grant Park, Chicago. Not only rocks the windy city with culinary delights, but fantastic daily music concerts and it doesnt cost a dime to get in.

Chicago is as renowned for its gastronomy as for its gangsters. Theres no prohibition at The Taste of Chicago food festival though and the aromas rising from Grant Park will have you queuing at the park gates to be first in when they open.
No need to rush as the event is on from 11am to 9pm Wednesday to Friday and from 10am until 9pm on Saturday and Sunday. Theres always plenty of food to go round, which is good, as expected attendance can reach astronomical figures. Think one and a half million and you wont be far wrong. Thats a lot of cooking by anyones standards.

Some Events Just Had To Be Canceled
Many events that have been canceled had been held for decades without interruption before 2020 and traditionally attract tens of thousands of attendees. In addition to Arlington Heights Frontier Days, Lisles Eyes to the Skies Festival, and tastes of Oak Brook, Park Ridge and Wheaton, Schaumburg called off its Prairie Arts Festival, and West Chicago wont hold its Blooming Fest or Railroad Days.
The DuPage County Fair, originally set July 21-25, was canceled for the second consecutive year, though officials say they could hold a similar type of event in the fall. In a letter posted on the DuPage County Fair website, CEO of the DuPage County Fair Association Jim McGuire said the county is using fairgrounds in Wheaton as a mass coronavirus vaccination site after initially using it as a COVID-19 testing site.
Jason Braglia, New Lenox Community Park Districts deputy director of recreation, said officials were unsure when large gatherings would be allowed, as well as what tangent COVID-19 cases might take in the coming months. New Lenoxs Proud American Days was also scratched.
We are erring on the side of caution in canceling, he said.
Daniel Jordan, a 32-year-old live music lover from Chicago now living in DeKalb, said hed love to go to shows this year, but only if its safe. He most wants to attend Milwaukees Summerfest, which is scheduled to be held this September, but also looks forward to returning to small music venues.

Where Will Taste Take Place This Year
Instead of the central Grant Park event, the Taste of Chicago To-Go will be spread out across the city, with pop-up events in different neighborhoods through Sunday:
Friday: Head to Humboldt Park for Puerto Rican food, coffee and a storytelling session with The Taste of Sugar author Marisel Vera. 4-8 p.m., ¡WEPA! Mercado del Pueblo, 2259 W. Division St.
A second event will take place at the Goose Island Tap Room, where a one-night-only pint and a commemorative koozie are sure to lure brewery fans. A portion of proceeds will go to nonprofit My Block, My Hood, My City. Food trucks and DJs will also be on hand. 5-8 p.m., 1800 W. Fulton St.
Saturday: A full slate of events kicks off with the Taste of the West Side pop-up. Sample some of the citys most innovative concepts at The Hatchery, a food incubator in East Garfield Park. Live entertainment and cooking demonstrations will add to the event, as will the I Am Community art installation. 10 a.m.-2 p.m., The Hatchery, 135 N. Kedzie Ave.
Head to West Englewood to feast on a bevy of options from Chicago restaurants at another neighborhood pop-up Taste, from Robinsons to Tatas Tacos to Whadda Jerk. Chicago musicians will perform in the beer garden, with DJs and dancers keeping things lively and games for kids such as ring toss, a 17-foot lane slide and giant Connect Four. 1-8 p.m., 6300 S. Wood St.

Though many of Chicagos favorite street and music festivals are primed to return to the city this summer, not all of them will look the same. Perhaps no more evident of that is the reimagined Taste of Chicago festival that began this week in a pop-up or to-go type rendition of the most iconic food festival in the world.
Each day well deliver the events around-the-city schedule so you know what you need to do in order to experience this new-look version of the Taste of Chicago! Day one was a massive success by all accounts! To take advantage of Sundays festivities, check out the round up below.

Festivities kick off at Pullman City Market with a collection of food trucks and vendors including Tatas Tacos from Portage Park, Whadda Jerk from Ukrainian Village, and Chicagos Dog House near DePaul. Cheesecake-on-a-stick specialists Elis Cheesecake will host a cake cutting, and attendees can take a dance lesson with music from local DJs. Elis will host a Taste pop-up on July 10 outside its Dunning headquarters, teaming up with Robinsons No. 1 Ribs who will have a food truck.
The following days will follow a similar pattern, highlighting an assortment of vendors alongside cultural activities and education, including a Puerto Rican cooking lesson from chef Roberto Pérez founder of Urban Pilón . The Taste will also hold cooking demonstrations at the Hatchery, a food business incubator with ghost kitchens in Garfield Park. The event will close out Sunday with the Lets Talk Womxn Picnic in White, a gathering in Millennium Park with $45 picnic box lunches with items from a number of Chicago restaurants including Antique Tacos Ashley Ortiz, Pretty Cool Ice Creams Dana Salls-Cree, and Fronteras Deann Bayless. The effort brings together women restaurateurs as means to bolster economic power. Place pre-orders for the event online by Thursday, July 8.

How To Chow Down
Youll need to pre-purchase tickets at the special ticket booths which you then swap for food at the stalls.
They do take credit cards at the ticket booth, but youll find paying cash is a lot faster. The tickets come in strips of fourteen for around $10. Expect to be seriously spoilt for choice once you hit the food stalls as just about every ethnic cuisine is represented at The Taste Chicago.
If you want to try as many new taste experiences as you possibly can, ask for a taster portion. Theyre much smaller than meal-size portions, wont fill you up quickly and youll get more variety of food for your tickets. Youll be looking at handing over one to six tickets for a taster and anywhere up to twenty for a meal.

“Taste of Chicago To-Go will return this summer with special events around the city including pop-up cooking demonstrations, the return of the ‘Community Eats’ community meals program, and other special events promoting Chicago’s amazing restaurant industry,” Lightfoot and the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events said in a release.
The updated events will take place throughout July, August and September to avoid the thousands of out-of-town visitors the festival normally brings.

There are a number of hotels near Taste of Chicago. If you want to work off the good food you will no doubt be eating at the Taste of Chicago Festival, consider booking a room at the Buckingham Athletic Club Hotel. Overlooking Lake Michigan, the Buckingham Athletic Club Hotel is located on the 40th floor of the Chicago Stock Exchange building. This 21-room boutique hotel is considered downtown Chicago’s best kept secret. Street Art In Graffiti Alley
This is no dark alleyway art, but more Graffiti al fresco. The Graffiti artists, shaded from the sun under copious awnings, work on their latest masterpiece on huge canvases rather than bricks or cement.
You can watch as their latest designs take form before your eyes. They really do have incredible talent. You might well be tempted to purchase one of the finished items, but if you are and youre travelling home on the subway, you just might find it a bit of a tight fit going through the doors.
Super Quick Supper Dish Of Patacones With Guacamole
Patacones, twice-fried plantain, are super simple to make. All youll need is a couple of green plantain. Green are best as the ripe ones are just too soft. Peel them and cut them into discs about ½ cm thick. Shallow fry the slices in olive oil until theyre just starting to turn golden. Take them out of the oil and drain them on kitchen paper.
The secret to making good patacones is what you do next. Lay each half-cooked disc between two layers of kitchen paper and squash them with the ball of your hand. When youve flattened them all, its time to finish frying them. Pop them back in the oil until theyre crispy and golden, drain them, add a sprinkle of sea salt and theyre ready to enjoy.

Want some super quick guacamole dip to go with them?
Just scoop the soft flesh of two ripe avocados into a blender, add a squeeze of lime juice, half a red chile or less if youre not into anything too spicy, half a red onion roughly chopped long with a diced tomato. You can add some fresh coriander too if youve got some to hand. Give it all a good whizz up and then spoon it into a dish.
