For The Iconic Summertime Event The City Will Continue Practicing Pandemic Guidelines At Pop

The smell of summertime grilling filled the air of the Pullman City Market on Wednesday. Food trucks lined the street and dance hall music blared from a stage. This was 2021s Taste of Chicago To-Go.
In lieu of the annual Grant Park food festival, the city still recovering from the pandemic found a new way to host the iconic summer event: neighborhood pop-ups.
The food truck event Wednesday at 111th and South Cottage Grove Avenue was the first of five days of Taste of Chicago pop-up events this week.

Seven Intriguing Taste Of Chicago Vendors In 2022
Daniel Hautzinger
This year’s Taste of Chicago, which takes place in Grant Park this year from 11:00 am – 9:00 pm on July 8 through 11, will be a “bite-sized” version due to restaurants’ struggles with staff shortages, its programmer toldBlock Club Chicago. The smaller number of vendors could actually be a silver lining: you’ll feel like you’re missing out on less vendors due to the constraints of your stomach.
While stalwarts such as Eli’s Cheesecake Company and BJ’s Market and Bakery are at the Taste, there are also some lesser-known and more unusual eateries participating. Here are seven with some intriguing concoctions.
Best Food Trucks At The Taste Of Chicago
The city may have an aversion to food trucks occasionally, but alas they have been officially allowed into the Taste of Chicago this year. On one condition. They will be available at night during the nightly concerts only. Food trucks will be parked on the easternmost concrete path with up to seven trucks selling entrees and desserts. Trucks will begin selling their yummy goods one hour before the evening concerts So let’s take a gander at some of this year’s food trucks.

Bombay Wraps opened in 2010 when Falguni Dewjee and Nik Jain wanted to share with everyone the delicious food they grew up with in Bombay , India. Each wrap begins with delicately spiced and marinated fillings, then they add pickled onions, fresh cut veggies or cilantro chutney and then it is wrapped in flaky flatbread paratha or whole wheat roti. This is good if you’re in the mood for fresh and fast Indian food.

This is more than a truck filled with baskets of salsa and chips. Each day, specialty salsas are paired with tacos and quesadillas. They have homemade salsas, hot sauces and guacamole. Also as the seasons change, their menu evolves. They will make chili and soup in the winter and salads in the summer. All of their spices are from the Terra Spice Company.

What’s New At This Year’s Taste Of Chicago
Chicago police will be on high alert, ramping up resources all weekend with security at the top of mind for organizers.
“Given all the situations, Highland Park certainly first and foremost, we are in a different world, so safety and security is a very, very big priority for this event,” Taste of Chicago Manager Neil Heitz said.
Mayor Lori Lightfoot said the city is ready and protected.
“We are very mindful of what’s happened,” Mayor Lightfoot said. “We are looking at all events that are on the calendar from now until the fall and making sure we are learning the lessons we can.”
Organizers said you may need extra time to get through lines at the entrance for bag checks and strongly urge you to say something if you see something.
In the meantime, other things are getting simpler. The event is going ticketless this year.
All you need is cash or a credit card to buy things at each vendor.
Ribs, chicken and waffles, cheesecake, the Taste of Chicago has it all for you this year.
“We have our famous rib tips with Mr. E Chef Catering, our special sauce and our special seasoning drizzle with some fries and our chicken,” Melvin with Mr. E Catering said.
Traditions like that back where they belong in Grant Park.
“We can’t wait. It’s gonna be so nice to have everyone back out and having some fun,” Rebecca Vanderkloot said.
Even Chance the Rapper was there, on a quest to get ice cream with his daughter.
