West Garfield Parks Only Grocery Store Is Now A Weekly Pop
Garfield Park Grocery Pop Up, a moveable market with produce, meats, and other pantry items, is bridging an essential food gap for some West Side residents following the sudden closure of Aldi last fall in West Garfield Park, according to Block Club Chicago. The pop-up market, open 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays at 4316 W. Madison Street, is the result of collaboration among organizations including Garfield Park Community Council, the Rite to Wellness Collaborative, and West Side United. The neighborhood is still in need of a reliable, affordable, and permanent grocery store.

Early Life And Career
Byrne was born Jane Margaret Burke on May 24, 1933, at John B. Murphy Hospital in the neighborhood on the north side of Chicago, Illinois, to Katherine Marie Burke , a , and William Patrick Burke, vice president of . Raised on the city’s north side, Byrne graduated from Saint Scholastica High School and attended for her first year of college. Byrne later transferred to , where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and biology in 1955. Byrne entered politics to volunteer in ‘s for president in . Shortly thereafter, Byrne accused the newly appointed mayor of being unfair to citizens of the city by approving an increase in regulated taxi fares, which Byrne charged was the result of a “backroom deal”. Byrne was then dimissed from her post of head of consumer affairs by Bilandic.

Where Will Taste Take Place This Year
Instead of the central Grant Park event, the Taste of Chicago To-Go will be spread out across the city, with pop-up events in different neighborhoods through Sunday:
Friday: Head to Humboldt Park for Puerto Rican food, coffee and a storytelling session with The Taste of Sugar author Marisel Vera. 4-8 p.m., ¡WEPA! Mercado del Pueblo, 2259 W. Division St.
A second event will take place at the Goose Island Tap Room, where a one-night-only pint and a commemorative koozie are sure to lure brewery fans. A portion of proceeds will go to nonprofit My Block, My Hood, My City. Food trucks and DJs will also be on hand. 5-8 p.m., 1800 W. Fulton St.
Saturday: A full slate of events kicks off with the Taste of the West Side pop-up. Sample some of the citys most innovative concepts at The Hatchery, a food incubator in East Garfield Park. Live entertainment and cooking demonstrations will add to the event, as will the I Am Community art installation. 10 a.m.-2 p.m., The Hatchery, 135 N. Kedzie Ave.

Head to West Englewood to feast on a bevy of options from Chicago restaurants at another neighborhood pop-up Taste, from Robinsons to Tatas Tacos to Whadda Jerk. The Court of the Presidents is located directly on the north and south side of E. Ida B. Wells Drive, west of S. Columbus Drive and east of S. Michigan Ave. Manicured gardens and art work help define the Court of Presidents. South President’s Court, until recently, has primarily been gardens. However, within the past decade the city has decided to use the area to showcase art work by Chicagoans. While unique artwork has long been a tradition of Chicago’s parks, South President’s Court had the added benefit of showcasing “in house” art as its first newsworthy collection, entitled “Artist and Automobiles.” The collection, organized by the Public Art Program and the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs, consisted of sculptures composed entirely of parts found on old automobiles.

Lettuce Entertain You To Take Over Upcoming St Regis Hotel Restaurants After Alinea Bows Out
Seven months after the world-famous Alinea Group nixed plans to provide food and beverage at the upcoming St. Regis Chicago hotel, another local hospitality heavyweight is stepping into the fray. Leadership at the luxury hotel is expected to tap Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises, the citys largest restaurant group, to operate its restaurant inside the 101-story skyscraper at 363 E. Wacker Drive originally known as the Vista Tower, according to Crains. Initially slated to open in June, the St. Regis Chicago is now expected to launch in February 2023.

‘taste Of Chicago To Go’ Kicks Off Wednesday
CHICAGO — The Taste of Chicago has been canceled due to COVID-19, but the city is still offering the experience at home with the “Taste of Chicago To Go.”
The event will run Wednesday to Sunday with online cooking demonstrations with local chefs and a food truck procession.
There will also be virtual dance and music events.
Mayor Lori Lightfoot addressed the public Wednesday to celebrate the start of “Taste of Chicago To Go.”
“The spirit of the restauranteurs across our city,” Lightfoot said. “They’ve had a very very tough go. This shutdown by COVID which, was necessary to keep people safe, has really really affected their ability to earn a living and to really realize their dreams.”
Lightfoot encouraged the public to support local restaurants.
“For our localrestaurants,andparticularlyourstartups, it’sahugeopportunitytoshowcasetheircookingtalents and givebacktotheircommunities,” She said “Localrestaurantsmakeupthebackboneofourneighborhoods,andpleasefolks,let’smakesurethatwegooutandwepatronize them.”

The wave of union organizing among coffee shop workers shows no signs of abating, as Starbucks employees at two Chicago cafes this week filed petition for union certification last week with the National Labor Relations Board . Most workers at 6350 N. Broadway in Edgewater and 6075 N. Lincoln Avenue in West Rogers Park have signed union authorization cards, Workers United told the Tribune. The announcement comes less than a week after pro-labor staff at Starbucks outposts in Edgewater and Edgewater Beach overwhelmingly voted to unionize, becoming the citys first Starbucks to successfully do so. Despite the coffee giants aggressive and well-documented anti-union campaign, employees at 10 Chicago-area stores have filed for union representation since the start of 2022.

What Is The Taste Of Chicago
Historically, a lineup of local restaurants and food vendors set up booths in Grant Park for a five-day Taste of Chicago, and attendees had to buy paper tickets at the door that could then be spent on food and drink within the gates. The Taste of Chicago also usually booked a robust lineup of concerts, with ticketed seats available in the pavilion and free lawn seating.
This year, however, things look fairly different than previous versions of the fest. Similar to the pandemic-era Taste of Chicago To-go events, the 2022 edition will feature smaller, day-long festivals in neighborhoods across the city, with a lineup of entertainment including local restaurants, Chicago SummerDance performances and live music.
