The Sears Tower In Chicago

Sears Tower Opening And Later

Sears / Willis Tower 360 View from 103rd Floor in Chicago 4K UHD Video

Sears had calculated that the company would occupy a percentage of the space in the building and rent other offices to small business and companies. It would retake that space once their company grew as predicted. However, due to increased competition, the Sears did not grow as expected and it even lost its market share by the mid/late 1970s. Other businesses also did not take up tenancy in the tower as expected and the building was only 50 percent occupied in the 1980s.

Sears moved out of the Sears Tower in 1992 and sold the building to AEW Capital Management in 1994. Some companies tried to buy the building between 1997 and 2014, but were unsuccessful. The Blackstone Group bought it in 2015 for $1.3 billion.

The Skydeck observation place

The Skydeck is an observation deck in the Sears Tower, the highest such deck in the US. It is situated on the 103rd floor of the building, at a height of more than 412m/1350 feet above ground level. It was opened to public in June 1974. Visitors can feel the swaying of the tower on windy days. Tourists can take the elevator and reach the deck in around 60 seconds. During the elevator ride, one can experience the change in pressure as one rises upwards. The views from the deck are also spectacular on a clear day, one can see across Lake Michigan, over the plains of the IL state, and to other states like Michigan, Indiana, and Wisconsin.

There is a second observation deck on the 99th floor. It is used when the above floor is closed.

Shear Wall Frame Interaction System

Khan developed the shear wall frame interaction system for mid high-rise buildings. This structural system uses combinations of shear walls and frames designed to resist lateral forces. The first building to use this structural system was the 35-stories Brunswick Building. The Brunswick building was completed in 1965 and became the tallest reinforced concrete structure of its time. The structural system of Brunswick Building consists of a concrete shear wall core surrounded by an outer concrete frame of columns and spandrels. Apartment buildings up to 70 stories high have successfully used this concept.

This is a good pass worth the money. However I gave it 4 not 5 stars because my only issue is how 360 makes you do reservations online but their website continues to have system errors making it hard to book if you can book. I’ve been trying to reserve this time slot and can’t cause all I get is a technical error screen. And you can’t get anyone on the phone. Very frustrating.

Ping Out For A Staggering View

The Ledge at Willis Tower is a series of glass-enclosed balconies that offer visitors the opportunity to experience Chicago from 103 stories above ground, seemingly floating above the city. The Ledge foregrounds the iconic views, while showcasing the towers pioneering structural design through a minimal design approach and subtle finishes.

The five-sided glass balconies provide views in all directions, approximating the experience of being suspended in the air. The ledges are approximately 4 feet deep, 10 feet high, and 10 feet wide, and made of 1.5 inch laminated glass panels hung from a steel frame. The frames can be retracted into the building on rails for cleaning and maintenance.

We wanted to create a quiet backdrop for people to be fully immersed in the citys skyline and allow the view to speak for itself.

Sears Tower: Historic Skyscraper By A Muslim Architect

Sears Tower, Chicago, Illinois

Im not saying this because Im an American citizen but this country is truly amazing when it comes to its very diverse landscape. Ive been fortunate to be able to travel around this country a bit and every time I go to a new state, it never seizes to surprise me. About 10 years ago I did an epic road trip around USA, wella big chunk of USA and during that time I drove through Illinois. When I was crossing Chicago it was evening time, the lights started to come out. As I said I was driving through so I was only able to see the Chicago skyline from my driving seat, only for few minutes. But to the eyes of an 22 year old who only immigrated to America few months ago, it was majestic. I promised myself right there and then that one day I will come back here and explore this city.

Fast forward 10 years, a lot has changed about myself quite a few extra pounds, much less hair on my head and married with a child. Surprisingly Chicagos skyline seemed almost same to me, still holding onto the magic that blew away a 22 year old young man. Though I did notice few more skyscrapers, traffic was a bit heavier and the roads dont look as shiny as before but didnt matter to me. I felt the same excitement that I did 10 years ago as our plane started to descend in the Chicago OHare Airport.
