Avalon Steak & Seafood

This tony steakhouse marks the New York-based Host Restaurants first South Florida restaurant. Avalon Steak & Seafood is the eighth restaurant for the group, which also operates eight Manhattan eateries, including Bills Townhouse and Campagnola. It boasts a strong New York transplant following.

So many of our top patrons have second homes and extended family members whom they visit in Palm Beach, Boca, Delray Beach and around South Florida, and whenever they would return to New York, they would express their wishes and wants, sharing what was missing for them with existing concepts in town, said Host Restaurants chief Curt Huegel said in a restaurant news release. We want our loyal guests to know that we couldnt be more excited to reveal Avalon, a steakhouse expressly designed with these guests in mind.

Avalon is modern and sleek and boasts a premium seafood program. Starters, for example, range from oysters on the half shell and crab cocktail to crudos. Seafood entrees include lobster tagliatelle, miso black cod, and whole roasted fish at market price.

Steak offerings range from a 14-ounce prime New York strip to a 36-ounce dry-aged tomahawk prime rib-eye.

Bavettes Bar And Boeuf

Bavettes Bar and Boeuf brings a touch of French flair to the classic Chicago steakhouse experience. The chic, softly lit atmosphere, abuzz with music and guests dressed to the nines, recalls an early 20th-century jazz club. Start with the cocktails: Bavettes Bar is known for its martini selection, and six takes on the standard Old-Fashioned. No surprise, the star menu items here are the French steak classics: the ribeye steak frites, a wet-aged steak served with the best fries in town, plus a smooth and buttery béarnaise sauce, and the steak tartare, which arrives Parisian-style, with dijonnaise sauce and a slow-cooked egg.

All the American steakhouse classics are on the menu here, too, including Chicago cut ribeye, bone-in filet mignon, and dry-aged New York cut strip steak, as well as nostalgic apps like sizzling shrimp scampi, baked crab cakes, and shrimp cocktail. Skip dessert and opt for a boozy Bavettes Bar signature chocolate or espresso martini.

Hugos Frog Bar & Fish House

1024 N Rush St, Chicago, IL 60611Phone: 312-640-0999

Sitting off North Rush Street, only blocks from the Museum of Contemporary Art and the John Hancock tower, Hugos Frog Bar & Fish House offers an upscale seafood experience unlike any other.

Hugos boasts a delicious variety of seafood and a delightful selection of cocktails, beer, and wine with other locations in Naperville and Des Plaines. I started with a small bowl of New England Clam Chowder.

That was a solid choice. Moving on to the fresh fish menu, I tried the Planked Lake Superior Whitefish for something local, and it was excellent. The Summer Fever Gin & Tonic paired with it beautifully and left me feeling satisfied.

The Angry Crab boasts two Chicago locations. The south location on North Milwaukee Avenue sits between Goose Island to the east and Humboldt Park to the west.

The other place on North Lincoln Avenue makes its home a few blocks west of Rosehill Cemetery. This popular casual Cajun joint is opening a third location in 2022 in Melrose Park.

Part of Angry Crabs charm comes from management, allowing guests to bring their beer or wine along for just a $3 corkage fee. On my visit, I started with the Cajun-Garlic French Fries.

Feeling like oysters, I checked out the California Char-Grilled with tomato, cilantro, and lime. If oysters arent your thing, the catch of the day is always a great bet!

Jean-Marc Brocard, Vau de Vey, 2019If you ever needed one, Chablis is the almost perfect manifestation, and proof, of terroir itself. Peter Dean, 2017 Peter Deans quote speaks directly to the premier cru vineyard of Vau de Vey, one of the most beautiful in Chablis. Located directly across the Serein River from the seven Grand Cru vineyards, Vau de Vey shares the same limestone-clay soils as the Grand Crus. As if that werent enough, the final wine is in the hands of the impassioned Jean-Marc Brocard, whose years of sustainable farming add even more depth & complexity to the final bottle.129
