Uchicago Medicine Adventhealth Plan Affiliation To Expand Care And Services In Chicagos Western Suburbs

Mitchell Popovetsky, MD – Rush University Medical Center

The University of Chicago Medicine and AdventHealth have signed a definitive agreement to enter into an affiliation that will increase access to a spectrum of services, treatment options and cutting-edge clinical trials for residents in Chicagos western suburbs.

Under the proposed affiliation, UChicago Medicine will acquire a controlling interest in AdventHealths Great Lakes Region which includes its four Illinois hospitals in Bolingbrook, Glendale Heights, Hinsdale and La Grange with AdventHealth retaining the remaining ownership and continuing to manage daily operations of the facilities. UChicago Medicine and AdventHealth will each retain their current system-level governance and administrative structures.

The transaction will enable consumers to seamlessly access primary, specialty and subspecialty medical care across both organizations.

Joining UChicago Medicine will allow us to further our mission and enhance our ability to deliver high-quality, whole-person care to more people in the communities served in the greater Chicago area, said Terry Shaw, AdventHealth President/CEO.

The proposed transaction requires regulatory approvals. The parties are working toward a formal closing date at the end of 2022 or in early 2023.

Welcome to the Ascension Resurrection Family Medicine Residency Program. We were established in 1977 and have trained generations of outstanding family medicine physicians. Our program strives to challenge each resident, give them the opportunity to individualize their training, and instill the confidence they need to transition to independent practice. Our graduates have gone on to pursue fellowships or start careers ranging from private practice, large group practices, rural medicine, and teaching in academic medicine.

Being in one of America’s greatest cities, we have the unique opportunity to treat patients of all cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. We are a community hospital with deep roots in our neighborhood. Our residents work in collaboration with residents from our Emergency Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynecology and Transitional Year programs. Our physicians see patients in the hospital, our outpatient clinic, nursing homes, home visits and outpatient specialty clinics. This diverse training experience teaches our residents not only the skills necessary to diagnose and treat disease, but how to inspire quality of life in their patients. We value our patients and the opportunity to serve them.

Uchicago Medicine Study: Most Physicians Dont Have Enough Time To Fulfill All Patient Care Needs

If they followed national recommendation guidelines for preventive care, chronic disease care and acute care, it would take a primary care physician 26.7 hours per day to see an average number of patients, a new study finds.

There is this sort of disconnect between the care weve been trained to give and the constraints of a clinic workday, said Justin Porter, lead author of the paper and an assistant professor of medicine at the University of Chicago. We have an ever-increasing set of guidelines, but clinic slots have not increased proportionately.

This study builds on others that have found a discrepancy between guidelines and a physicians time. And it has real consequences for the delivery of health care the researchers said that time pressure helps explain why improvements in outcomes have not kept pace with advances made in the field.

Time pressure plays a role in inequities in health care, with vulnerable populations typically receiving care at overburdened clinics. It also has an impact on patient satisfaction.

If you do surveys with patients about what frustrates them about their medical care, youll frequently hear, My doctor doesnt spend time with me or My doctor doesnt follow up, said Porter. I think a lot of times this is interpreted as a lack of empathy, or a lack of willingness to care for a patient. But the realityfor the majority of doctorsis simply a lack of time.

Study: Pcps Need 267 Hours Per Day To Provide Recommended Care

Primary Care Doctor In West Ridge, Chicago

According to a UChicago Medicine article from earlier this month by Devon McPhee, if primary care physicians followed national recommendation guidelines for preventative care, chronic disease care, and acute care, it would take them 26.7 hours per day to see an average number of patients, according to a new study. The study is entitled Revisiting the Time Needed to Provide Adult Primary Care, and is published in the Journal of General Internal Medicine.

The article says that The research, conducted by the University of Chicago, Johns Hopkins University, and Imperial College London, used a simulation study to compute time per patient based on data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.

The breakdown of the 26.7 hours, according to the article, is 14.1 hours/day for preventive care, 7.2 hours/day for chronic disease care, 2.2 hours/day for acute care, and 3.2 hours/day for documentation and inbox management.

Justin Porter, M.D., assistant professor of medicine at the University of Chicago and lead author of the paper was quoted in the article saying that There is this sort of disconnect between the care weve been trained to give and the constraints of a clinic workday. We have an ever-increasing set of guidelines, but clinic slots have not increased proportionately.

Further, The study also looked at physician time as part of a team, where nurses, physician assistants, counselors and others help to deliver recommended care.
