Winnie The Pooh: The New Musical Stage Adaptation Reviews

Chicago Tribune – Recommended
“…Happy to report Pooh is Pooh, Piglet is Piglet, Kanga Kanga, Roo Roo and so on so forth throughout the Hundred Acre Wood. We’re not talking Julie Taymor of the stage adaption of Disney’s “The Lion King,” but familiar and officially licensed, direct-from-New York Disney heroes, as calming as a drink of warmish milk . It’s like a meet-and-greet at Disneyland, although the stars and their handlers remain a few feet away. But they’re large as life, which is a ridiculous thing to write, but you know what I mean.”

“…This one hour musical show , inspired by the books of Milne takes us on a journey, using puppetry with people to make the magic appear. The presentation is new, but does use the characters we love and the situations of the past intertwined with some new ideas. Many youngsters will be seeing live entertainment, called theater for the first time. This is an exciting way to introduce the young ones to live theater. The music in the show is from the original works that Disney has produced using the wonderful songs of the Sherman Brothers.”

“…There might be no better proof of theatrical success than to join an audience packed with tiny tots and watch as they sit and remain totally engaged with what is happening on stage for a solid hour.”

A Beautiful Heartwarming Tale For The Child In Each Of Us
Winnie goes through a series of mini adventures, Rockefeller explained while taking a break from auditioning actors for the Chicago production. He was liking what hed seen in the local talent pool so far. There is such amazing talent in Chicago, especially with puppetry. Many of these performers havent been on the stage for a while , and now the fog is lifting.
Audience members are charmed and entertained by the shows whimsy and positive lessons. Each story impacts the fundamental values of Winnie: friendship, looking after each other, knowing that we are all different and thats OK, that we can learn to live with and appreciate each other. That is the message that is so wonderful, and its told with a whole bunch of silliness and a little bit of naughtiness. We dont believe in talking down to children everything we do is to keep the show accessible and enjoyable at every level, no matter what age, Rockefeller says.
Though its billed as a childrens production, Rockefeller maintains that the musical appeals to everyone. It is not just for kids, he says. In New York, we very much saw family groups of all ages coming in and people coming in with no children, he says. Its really for all ages. Our demographic is that we aim for children and the children inside all of us.
